Well, i havent been on these forums in a while. So im back, with another question.

Ive got a 2001 GSXR600 and a 1978 GS550E. The 550 is the bike in question.

OK, so, the bike from the start had a bad idle. Rev it up, and the revs would stay up at the peak and slowly come back down, or not come down at all. As well, it was very hard to start, and would bog out under any kind of load or any quick snap of the throttle.

So, i closed all of the air screws on each carb and gave each one a half a turn out. (Might i add, every screw was turned out to different areas, some 9 turns out and some one or 2.)

Anyways, this solved almost all of the problems! It starts imediatly, idles smoothly, idle returns to normal, and can oull me around town fairly decently without problem. BUT, i noticed this one thing. Now it only happens when im at a slow cruise (15-30kph) and i will "violently" snap the throttle to about 3/4s open or more. The bike will essentially almost die for about 5 seconds, almost like its completely not running. If i hold it at that position, it will eventully "grab" and go. And if i take the throttle back down to normal it will imediatly continue on its slow cruise.

Now, if i snap the throttle to anything under and including half throttle it will go like a raped ape, but like i said, anything above and shes toast.

Now, this is completely unnesisary in my daily riding to "snap" the throttle open like that, but i did notice it, and obvioulsy there is something wrong and id like it fixed. Im wondering if i should play with the idle air screws a bit more.

** The carbs had been rebuilt a year ago. Near new plugs, gapped right and clean. All cylinders getting spark, clean air filter and good gas.**

I think all the GS mechanics are on Holiday! Send Chad a PM. Or maybe Nut, he is into the carberated Gixxers and may know the answer for your GS.
