I'm thinking about getting highway pegs for my 97 Intruder 800. I saw a couple of bikes with highway pegs and it looks like they all attached the pegs onto their engine guards. are there alternatives for this? or can I attach the highway pegs somewhere on the bike's frame? any suggestions would be much appreciated...thanks

Most attach to engine guards, but there are a couple of brands that attach either to the frame or to the engine mount bolts. The ones for the frame are very expensive, as they have to attach under the bike, then bend up and around the radiator. I just ordered some for the engine mount bolts, but I am at work and don't have the information with me. They were cheep (about $50) and actually designed for a Honda ACE, but by using longer mounting bolts and a chrome 3/4 inch socket as a spacer on each side I can make them not only work, but look pretty good too. I'll post pictures when I am done.

DrBob, I would like to see the pictures when you're done. Also, when you get a chance, I would appreciate it if you could let me know of the information about the highway pegs that you ordered. If you can make them work and make them look good, I'll probably go ahead and get a pair too.

I installed highway pegs on my wife's Intruder by buying a couple of "Clamshell Clamps" and bolting them to the engine guard. Her engine guard is 1" diameter. Need to know that when buying the clamps. The spacing is perfect for her. If you are a little taller, you can get offsets which will move the pegs forward an inch or so. Not hard and not very expensive.

Yes, this is definately the best way to mount highway pegs...assuming that you have engine guards. If you don't like engine guards, mounting the pegs can be a challenge...
