I'd definitely call them back and talk with Dave or Sean. When I had a Yamaha Majesty serviced at 600 for $250 I was quick to ask about the C50. Your estimate is more than I've seen from anyone on this discussion board.

It can vary drastically between dealerships. I've seen quotes around here from $80 to around $300.

Thanks I contacted my dealer and told me to get some kind of deal since I sent two people his way and also didn't bargain on the price of the bike so I told him I deserve something. So we'll see what he digs up probably just a gracious well F U buddy a deals a deal but if he wants a good rep he should take care of me....we shall see....

Waaaay too much. Even for the extra work involved in a first service.

Picking my bike up tonight after its initial service. I did the oil/filter and final drive lube myself. Dealer is doing all the rest. It is $185. I made sure they actually check and set the valves, because I had read that some places just listen to them.

Update:

Well the salesman wasn't able to cut a deal with me just kinda avoided the question all together by saying he'd talk to his service manager and came back and said that there is a valve inspection which justifies the cost and just fed me bs.....so anyways called around and found another dealer in the area Hinshaw's that will do it for 200.00 kinda wierd that it varies 100.00 from Bellevue to Renton.

Hello, I'm a new member and new C-50 owner. I'm so glad to see this site and this topic.

I also went to have my first service on my bike and was shocked with a quote around $280. I might pay that due to the valve check but was totally disgusted when they told me I would have to leave the bike there all day. It's just not practical for me to arrange a ride home.

I'll do it myself thanks.

From what I understand, the engine has to be cold in order to set the valves properly. That's probably why you need to leave it for awhile. I asked to speak to the guy who worked on mine last night when I picked it up. He said the valves were "tight" which is also consistent with what others had reported on their bikes. Also said I had a lot of loose spokes. Anyway, I am glad to have it ship-shape and back in my hands. They really adjusted the brakes though - I about flung myself off of it at the first light! :)

Regards,
John

As a sushi lover I can tell you the differnce, you pay for them to take those damned hooks out.
My comment was really meant as a reference to a t-shirt I saw in Pike Market in Seattle - near where R3V and golftee live... something along the lines of the difference between Bellevue and Renton is sushi and bait, although the locations are probably interchangable with a few dozen others :)
