Just thought I would help all of you people who are having a bad day by telling you my story. And here it goes.... Well approx. 2 weeks ago I had just picked up my brand new 2004 GSX-R600 Black/Orange. Well after having an amazing time with it on this wonderful Saturday afternoon I decide to take a nice ride with a few other guys. We are at our meeting spot and I seem to spot alittle spot on my tire that doesn't look normal. Anyway it was a nail and I took my bike to the shop. Brand new tire with a nail in it, not even 500 miles on the bike. Well after 2 hours go by I go to get my bike and the service manager comes over and pulls me aside. "Tiresmkn, there was alittle accident with your bike" "Our technician was test driving the new tire we had put on and he hit some sand and crashed your bike" None the less, luckily enough they had the same bike in stock and swapped over: Muffler, all new pegs, front right controls, new feiring, new front rim and NEW FRONT TIRE as well as the back, new front cowling...and a few more extras. All said and done, they fully replaced all damaged parts and what not. Long ass day...but now I have to break in new tires!!!

I hope your day wasn't as bad as mine!!!!

WHO THE HELL TEST RIDES A TIRE?!!

Seriously, is this standard practice? I'd be furious over a test ride for a tire. There's no reason that a balance job isn't test enough.

BTW, the sand excuse was likely b.s. I'd bet a squid tech overbraked the new rubber and laid it down.

This type of thing occurs a lot in LA. We have listed all "questionable" dealers here, in a local forum here so our members can avoid them. Seems to occur more than most folks realize. One guy got his SV back with bent forks! Turned into a two year lawsuit that no one really won at. Bikes get ridin, wheelied, dropped etc.
My two cents: know who you are trusting your bike to and always take current dated photos prior to drop off. Sad but in LA you learn to be very cautious.
Sorry about your bike. Find a new shop asap. Get something in writting about what happened if possible. With that much damage is the frame still true? Head set ok? Forks straight? Sorry but I would be all over them for that! No reason to ride a bike for a tire repolacement. I'd say forget it, replace the bike you ruined! Especially with less than 500 miles on it. But then I am real anal when it comes to my ride.

I agree with you Dale. I'd want the new bike. When I drop my car off anywhere I specify on the work order no test rides, I get a copy before I leave. Any monkey business with my car will be lawyer handled. Sorry, how can you crash my bike/car and it'svalue not depreciate??? I wonder what another dealer would say if you took it in for a trade-in appraisal for say a '04 1K. See if they mention the repairs.

its a 600, why would they mention a 1000 repairs? They couldn't tell what happened. But all in all, I have my 600 mile check up...and I have notified them of the incidence. So hopefully when they do run all the check ups, they will find ALL if ANY issues to my attention to go to the other dealer who F***ed up my bike!!! This sucks!

What I meant was to have another dealer appraise the repairs on your 600. If you were to go and ask another dealer "Are these repairs ok?" they may or may not use their most critical eye. If you take your repaired 600 to another dealer and tell them "I'm thinking about trading up on an '04 1K, how much will I get for this one?" They should scrutinze your bike very closely as they'll be buying it in effect. If they don't mention any of the repairs your local shop did then I might walk away without any more fuss. It was just a suggestion how to verfy the quality of the repairs already done for free. I'm not trying to make your life any more complicated and besides being pissed of at the dealer for you I really feel sorry your baby got hurt.
Have a good one
