The day after I got my volusia, my daughter's boyfriend was sitting on it and knocked it over and scratched the emblem on the tank. I finally ordered a replacement emblem but am wondering if I can just put it on myself. If I could get the old one off, I believe I could just stick this new one on. Anyone know how to remove the emblem without damaging the tank?

Thanks,

JD

I don't know how to remove the emblem, but you don't say that you killed your daughter's boyfriend - so I admire your restraint. 8)

Yes, fishing line or dental floss to get it started. Hair dryer will help soften the mounting tape up some. Slide a credit card or similar under the end opposite from where you are lifting the emblem to protect the paint from the emblem. Once it is started lifting just grab the end and gently peel it away from the tank.

A CLEAN soft cotton cloth, like a t-shirt (but NO shop rags, they WILL scratch the paint!) and some Goo-Gone or Goof-Off will remove any residue with a little work.

Take a look at it without the emblem... you may like the look and decide to remove both sides. ;-)

I am 4 days new to biking and just took delivery on my new Volusia 800. I know this might sound like a stupid question but since we are on the topic of emblems, what do you folks do about that safety notice placed on the tank. You know the one that says wear a helmet and drive responsibly. Which I am going to do. Do you take it off or leave it on? As I am writing this I can't help think about those tags on mattresses that say something about if you remove them you go to jail. HA! Thanks for your advice.

I removed all the "Safety Warning" stickers from all my bikes. If I can't remember the common sense warnings, I need to stop riding. I don't need a sticker to remind me, YET.
I use a blow drier to "warm, not cook" the sticker and paint. It will peel right off. Then a little WD-40 to remove the remaining glue, followed by some wax.
I think it looks a lot better without the things. I even removed a lot of the Suzuki and 1000 stickers from my current bike for a cleaner look.

I removed that sticker from my tank Saturday. It took about an hour of gentle "scraping" and some WD-40. Now you cannot even tell it was there.

I think the emblems on the tank are going next.
