Don't have that model ... but have you looked in the owners manual? Usually they put that kind of info in there ...

When in doubt, RTFM.

quite often it can be up to a gallon of reserve fuel and usually no less than a half gallon. So.. estimate somewhere between 20-40 miles. I wouldnt' push it further than that though.

I have a 2004 Kat 750. The tank is 4 gallons plus a 1.3 gallon reserve (for a total of a 5.3 gallon gas tank).

I get about 45 mpg. You can probably go 50 miles or so on the reserve tank, but I'd play it safe and head straight to a gas station when you switch :)

ya when im on reserve and im on the freeway its weird cause i know there is some gas in there, but my engines doesnt completely cut out...but i noticeably lose some power nad throttle response. So i get off and get gas.Get back on freeway and its all good.It only does it when im on reserve...but anyway i get aout 60miles on reserve.Sometimes u have no choice but to run on it.

My personal opinion (although I am no longer a slave to the reserve switch, since my bike has a fuel gauge  ) is that you shouldn't risk going too far on reserve. Remember, the 'normal' fuel line sits a bit above the bottom of the tank, and the reserve line is at the bottom. If your fuel is not clean, deposits can collect at the bottom of the tank, and will be sucked into the fuel filter when you switch to reserve, causing it to clog up. This could be the problem that you're having, kitty - you might have some gunk at the bottom of your tank partially blocking the reserve intake.

Good practice is to know how far you can go on a normal tank, and try to hit a gas station before you run out of gas (or have to switch to reserve).

why is it the GSX-r doesn't have a switch to flip to the reserve tank....?

Fuel Injection and the dummy light.....when it comes on, it's time to get gas soon.
Its alittle better than havin the engine start stumbling to tell you need gas. I'd almost prefer a reserve switch. Its a manual thing. Cuz you know you flipped and you know you need gas, where as the light its kinda like eh.........maybe i'll get some soon its just alittle light.

I've found I can go about 110-120mi before the light pops up.
