How far have you driven on Reserve before you had to walk? Also what is your reserve capacity?

Yesterday had a scare because I did not know how far I could go on reserve before I had to start walking. Everything worked out for the best but I wanted to ask for future reference.

There will be many different factors like speed you drive, motor size, bike type, amount of fuel that the tank holds and so on. I just wanted to have a ball park figure to go with.

I seem to be getting around 200 km per tank, 805cc. Needed reserve for 30 km.

Thanks for any and all input.

On my little gixxer last weekend I averaged 40mpg over 1050 miles. Normally 36mpg in the canyons. Best was 46mpg.
Tank is 4.8 gallons
Reserve is stated as 0.8 gallons

Last leg of my ride, after midnight in high desert winds killed my mileage. Fuel light came on a lot earlier than expected. Gas stations were all closed! I had to make it home where there was a 24/7 Chevron. I think I put in 4.6 gallons!

I was carrying 2 emergency fuel bottles,33oz. each, in my saddlebags due to the distance and roads we would take during the ride. Luckily I made the entire ride and didn't need them. But I'd rather carry those than walk! http://images.search.yahoo.com/sear....html&p=msr+fuel+bottle&type=jpeg&no=4&tt=169

My friend James had a different idea. He bugeed a 1 gallon plastic fuel bottle to his rear seat!

reserve? whats that?! haha

i have a fuel light that flashes at 3/4-gal..that should be about 30+ miles in city and right around 40 highway. it then goes solid at 1/4-gal. meaning ive got about 10 miles or so before im walking. ive done about 30 miles or so with the light flashing before and didnt get to the solid light. one day i am going to be brave and see how long it does take. that will be in the city though with lots of stations nearby.

funniest thing is, when i was first telling my friend, hes like "no reserve!! so you have to pay attention to your miles all the time?! what if you forget to reset your trip meter or accidentally reset it in the middle?" i explained that it was "JUST like a CAR" and he thought about it and said "oh, yeah i guess". HAHA

then i tiold him i freaked too and had to sit and think about it before i realized that!

If you're running a fuel-injected bike, I would be darn sure that I didn't run out of gas. Some injectors or pumps can be damaged by pumping air instead of fuel.

Check your manual, it'll tell you when the fuel light *should* go on. You should also know what kind of mileage you usually get, so if, for example, your bike gets 40 mpg, and the fuel light comes on at 3/4 gallon, you should expect to be pushing the bike in about 30 miles.

My reserve is 2 1/2 litres, have not had to use it yet. Actually, don't even know what the petrol light would look like if it came on...

Thanks for the fuel bottle tip. Sounds like a good way to go! I will be placing my order soon. With my S50 I have about a 160 mile range and that can be scary on a long trip.
Pushing a bike is something you should be in shape for and I'm getting to old for that.
I did my share of bike pushing when I was in my 20's and rode by every gas station not having the time to fill up!
My reserve is .9 which would get me about 40 miles, so to reserve is approximately 120 miles. This is all with the assumption that I am getting 50 mpg. I’m not sure if that is the case?

Is it me or is that bike looking small? I'm not a big guy (5'8" 142lbs) but my SV doesn't even look remotely that small when I'm on it. No offense Dale.
I'm thinking that's a big guy on the CBR.

My reserve is .6 gallons. Since I typically get about 50mpg on my Savage, I figure I've got about 30 miles tops before I'm walking.

I've only run out (down to reserve) three times and every dang time I was doing 65mph.
