That's a hard question to answer...it's just like asking someone, "how spicy is spicy?"

Everyone has their own idea of what constitutes a lot of miles. For me, riding 350 miles in one day is enough to kill me...Gixxerdale rides 500+ miles in a day all the time, so a 350 mile ride for him is nothing.

Same thing goes for the "yearly" mileage. Like you eluded to in your post as well, where you're located in the country can have a lot to do with the amount of miles you put on in a year as well. The warmer states just have more months that they can ride than the colder states.

Basically, any amount of miles that you think is "a lot"...there's someone out there that's going to say, "That ain't nothin'...I ride xxx much per year"

I was putting about 1'000 miles a year on my Vespa, then about 1'500 miles per year on my 125. Both were being used for getting around the town, not much more.

Between picking up my 1400 in July and winterizing it in early November, I put about 2'000 miles on it. This coming season, I will probably put about 5'000 miles on it, since I'm planning to do some touring and attend some biker meets that are a few hours away :)

Have had this bike for just over 2 years and have 23.7k on it right now. You bought the thing to ride, so ride it. Just make sure that you take care of the engine and it will last you for a long time

Read the owners manual for a maintenance schedule and follow it. I also do a "Pre Flight" prior to departure on each weekend, just like a pilot before take off. If something goes wrong on a plane, you can't just pull over to the curb and park it. To me my motorcycle is the same. If it fails while under way, it can be very dangerous , even fatal. Always keep it in top shape and it will treat you well for many years. Pay attention to the little everyday stuff like oil level, brake fluid, brake pads, tire pressure, tire wear, clean and lube the chain regularly, etc. Always check your brake light. If it fails and you don't know it, it's a fast way to get hit, cause it's the only thing cagers seem to notice.

Many forum users ride 10,000 or more annually. I only get in a few thousand for various reasons.

I'd bet that the same people who think 3000 a year is a lot also think motorcycle engines don't last past 10,000. It's a common misperception.

Between 10,000 and 12,000 miles a year, depending on the severity of our monsoon season and how often I am forced to drive one of our cages to deliver equipment to clients.

Ha! We've been getting snow off and on since the first of november. This has been the worst winter I've seen here in a long time.

but luckily we had a nice weekend, because I was riding.

3000 miles in a year is probably average to low average for a motorcycle. Some people commute on their bikes, some only ride one or two weekends a month. I put 2700 miles on my '05 C50 since I picked up in late July last year. I also rode my other two bikes, so I would consdier 3000 / year to be pretty low mileage. There are many people who rack up a lot more miles than I do.
