I've done a few long and insanely long days on my bike, and my curiousity is getting the better of me. Sometimes I wonder if my long-distance yearnings have something to do with living in a remote corner of the country. I've done quite a few 600-800 mile days, and one Ironbutt ride.

I'd love to hear how far other riders have taken their bikes in a day and what kind of bike they did it on.

My short rides are usually about 100 miles and my longer ones maybe up to 500 miles. But I've never really had the time to go riding for a whole day.

long days

interestingly enough, the DR650 was actually a decent bike for touring. The small aftermarket removeable windshield cut the wind pretty well and the uncomfortable seat wasn't that much of an issue as I'm a cyclist as well. The weight of my luggage actually helped settle the bike a bit. The best surprise was the excellent performance, as long as you didn't need to go 160 km/hr all day. The bike would cruise well at 120-140 km/hr without feeling like it would blow up. long grades didn't bother it much and it ran very clean & smooth at 14,110 ft at the top of Pikes Peak

South of France

In the early 80's three of us travelled from Gloucestershire in the Southwest of England to the south of France to see the Bol D'or 24 hour endurance race. My mate on a Honda CB450 Black Bomber, my brother on a GT500 and me on an RD400. We left home at 3.00 in the afternoon and caught the overnight ferry.
What with the Honda destroying its clutch and only having a cruising speed of about 60mph and regularly getting lost we didn't arrive until mod day on the Sunday. God knows how far it was but we all felt every single mile.
A couple of years later 2 up on a GS750 we managed to get there in time for tea on Saturday.

1972 - Suzuki T500 Titan - Two up. Started in Redondo Beach and cruised up the PCH until we hit 250 miles, then we turned around and came back home. Mostly, I remember the cold!

I've done over 2400 miles non-stop, but in a car.
