So as everyone probably already knows, i want my first bike to be the M50 when it comes out. however, i am now hearing it isnt coming out till march!!

i close on my house on jan 14 and i am taking the MSF course the week of the 18-23. i will then be doing some serious bike shopping. i dont think i can wait till march because a) it is too far away and b) i wouldnt have the bike and be riding a while for bike week at daytona.

SO...what do i do? ive researched the yamahas, suzukis, hondas and kawasakis. all the other possibilities have something about them i dont like. whether that be carb instead of fuel injection, air/oil cooled instead of liquid, ugly spoked rims instead of nice mag wheels, or just too much money. i cant figure out what i want to get!

what i really want to do is just "borrow" a bike a couple months until the m50 is out but i dont see that happening. if i buy a used one then trade it in i take a huge hit. and i cant afford to buy one outright so i have to be able to finance it.

anyone have any suggestions? maybe someone in FL has a couple extra bikes to loan me one?? haha.

just some discussion on possibilities would help me out a lot...thanks.

Well, don't get a bike that you aren't 100% happy with.

You could probably pick up a Ninja 250 or something like that for a bit of change and then resell it for what you paid for it. You could buy something similar to what you want and just live with the hit you take on it. Sometimes you can come really close to breaking even if you find a good deal....

Just don't get yourself in a bind just because you want to be on 2 wheels right now....patience is a virtue

yeah, one that i DONT have! haha

as for a ninja, well...i am looking for a cruiser, but i get your point. i would have to buy from a dealer most likely so that financing is easy....so that is where i take a big hit.....tax and the markup, plus what they will buy it back for...i will lose about 2k (already discussed with a sales manager telling him i would come back to him to buy the M50).

im thinking a used marauder or shadow or volusia is going to be the way to go. just have to find one that i will lose minimal money. i wont be totally happy with anything exept the M50 for the long haul...but something to learn on wouldnt upset me for a few months.

Well I saw this beast at Biketoberfest and was quite impressed with it, low and fat!!! It's a Yamaha but something to look into IF the zuki are late, but I wouldn't put much stock into dates, So far the SV650s showed up way earlier then most expected. Plus throw some cash at the dealer for a pre-order and one might just become freed up prior to Bike Week which is the Offical Kick Off to the 2005 biker season so I would assume the stock would be out ready to be purchased after riders take test rides at the display tents. Also I'll ask the Zuki dealers in O-Town when they expect them to be in.

Oh anyway this is that Yamaha, a factory custom one for that matter. It ran about $26 to $34k as seen as best as I can remember. :)

If you can scrounge up 1500-2000 bucks, you can buy a nice used Intruder 800 (I picked up another one, a 1993 with 7000 miles, for $2000), ride it until March, then sell it for the same price to another beginner and use the cash as a down payment to buy your M50. All you will loose is what it costs to swap over the plate. Don't be too picky, as you will only be riding it for a couple months anyway, so get what you can afford, not what you want. Every dollar you spend on your beginner bike is one dollor less you have towards your M50.

Buying a brand new bike, especially when you have to go into debt to get it and will always be head over heals on the payments, is not a good idea for a first bike. Get an old one, let it suffer the effects of your learning curve (about 90% of all minor motorcycle accidents happen within the rider's first 500 miles), and see if you are really going to enjoy riding enough to get your moneys worth out of a new bike. Then buy your dream bike, once you know you still want it, you have the skills to ride it without wrecking it, and know that it will not just be taking up space in the garage.

If you buy a bike you don't really like now, you are gonna be pissed at yourself when the one you wants comes out. 2.5 months isn't that long to wait when you are spending that much money. Just wait.

First, I would say wait and get exactly the one you want and can afford (monthly payments, insurance, gear, etc.)
If you wanna get some good experience in, then go find an older used bike and resale it like Dr. Bob said. It will let you make some mistakes and scratches but they won't be on your new baby come March!

thanks all....Dr bob makes good sense and that is the way i am kinda leaning...going to use cycle trader to find something cheap....dont really care how old or anything, just something i have the cash for (under 2k) and then sell it after a few months and get the M50 when the demand is down a little.

yeah will do....nexus...that is ONE SWEET BIKE from biketoberfest...wish i could just go lay down $30k for a nice bike like that. my RX-8 cost that much so I guess it would be possible if it was my only vehicle.

im going to be doing some serious web-searching for bikes in the central FL area over the next couple weeks. id like to have one by mid to late january. if anyone hears anything on the M50, keep me posted.

thanks again for letting me bounce some ideas off you guys and helping me to come to a solution on how to approach this.

dont get me wrong i thinkg the C is a classy bike but i am not crazy about the style of the fenders on the C models. I love the M front fender especially. Plus the line on the M is just much more smooth and modern. But the bottom line for me is the B-E-A-utiful mag wheels!! Im just more into the modern styling rather than retro.
