OK..so im down talking to the dealer about sticking it out and waiting for the M50 to come out, or maybe getting onto a VTX1300. Im not sure I'll be happy with an 800 for the 5 years or so i want to keep whatever bike i buy. THough most of my driving will be cruising the back highways at 45-65 mph, i feel like i want some weight and power underneath me.

SO...he shows me a used 2002 YAMAHA 1100 decked out with aftermarket pipes (not cobra, some "B___" name with initials or something). custom mirrors, couple other add ons. has 6200 miles on it. They are asking $7k.

Thinking about it after i left....i SOOOOO want it! Should i? what should i pay?

I know its not a Suzuki, but....HELP!

What is it? Kawasaki doesn't make an 1100. Are you sure it wasn;t either a Vulcan 800 or a Honda Shadow Sabre or Spirit 1100? The price is WAY too high for the Vulcan 800, but only a couple hundred high for a Sabre or Spirit.

ok...i just talked to the sales guy....the Kawasaki part was my fault as i ALWAYS confuse them with Yamaha.....

it is a 2002 Yamaha XVS1100 (XVS11 Vstar custom i assume). I dont know much about Yamaha. It is Air cooled and carb'd. couple negatives in my book. but the chance to get an 1100 at this price is tempting. Also it has a nice wide rear fender that is SCREAMING for a 240 tire!

On most metric bikes, add on's are like swimming pools, they look nice but don't add much to the resale value of the bike, especially this time of year. Since you are not set on a specific brand or model, you are pretty much holding the cards in this deal. Be calm and don't get ripped.

Yamaha Vstar 1100, the top 1100cc cruiser on the market. Very good bike, tons of aftermarket stuff for it. Dependable and pleasant. Dual disk brakes up front and single disk in the back.

Downside is that you get a fraction more power than with a Suzuki 800 for a lot more money. Taking off the exhaust pipes to change the oil filter also gets old real quick. If you're a large person then you'll find the bike a little on the small side. Comfort wise the Volusia is roomier than the VStar.

yeah i liked the dual disk up front and single in rear over the M50 single/drum. am not crazy about air cooled.

i did some research at work (good time to do it :) ) and kbb lists it at 5800. there are others out there right around 6k. so the 7k they are asking is a little high. i talked to him on the phone and toild him if i could get out the door for 6500 i would think about it. he told me there is no way they would sell it for 6 plus tax.

ive pretty much talked myself out of it. too many things i would be settling for just to have a bike NOW rather than the end of march (M50). why did i have to fall in love with the ONE 2005 bike that isnt out yet!?!?!

At least you're riding.

yeah i keep trying to tell myself that. but when i head out for a 200 mile cruise with my three friends and they are on a 2004 VTX1300, and (2) Kawasaki Vulcan 1500's (a 2003 and a 2004), i feel a little out of place.

the important thing is we are out enjoying the fresh air and florida weather, but i really would like to feel a little more stable at 65 mph and in the wind.

at least i am getting a lot of practice on a bike that it doesnt matter if i drop it

Don't rush into something you'll regret later. Now picture this,
I was 6'5" and 240 lbs. and riding a standard Kawasaki KZ 440,
because I got a great deal on it, until I could make up my
mind which bike I really wanted. Stick to what you have until
you're sure about yourself.

Out of place, my friend, is when I ride a sport bike with my 4 neighbors.

So, you're like me . . burdened with friends that follow whatever fad is out there, regardless of where it takes them.

Kind of sucks, waiting 5 minutes for them to catch up in the twisties, huh?

My buddy: "You're enjoying the curves, and I'm enjoying the scenery."

Me: ""
