I've found some interesting numbers as well when looking around today.

I found GEICO Cycle-Gard was less than half of what Progressive demanded.

Those numbers you quoted are WAY higher than what I was told for what I was looking for. I was asking for full coverage with Uninsured Motorist coverage also.

I was told about $2500 for a year on a Katana 600 or $4000 for a Bandit 600 for a year through Progressive, yet only $1000 for the Kat and $800 for the Bandit through GEICO. However the Ninja 500 cost more than the Bandit at GEICO at around $1000(ish). By comparison my Savage LS650 is 498 per year with Progressive.

Bare in mind I am 30, Divorced, took MSF, have had my MC license for 3 months, have had no citations in over the inquired 3 years, or any insurance claims in the inquired 5 years. GEICO also wanted to know if I planned to wear a helmet.

Not sure if this helps any, but it's what I found today.

Grissom and BlueBusa, if you have car insurance through State Farm, they tend to have very competative rates for insuring sportsbikes, especially if you want collision/comprehensive coverage. Also, Grissom you may want to consider a slightly used bike so you can buy it outright and avoid getting collision insurance. I'm your age and in a similar situation (28, soon to be divorced, no tickets, MSF, etc. no one asked how muc MC exp I had.). My Kat 750 is $140/yr for liability through Progressive.

If ins. is that high, I'll just pay the tickets as I get them, would be much cheaper!!!
It's certainly not about tickets. I don't know what country you're in, but riding without insurance is a serious offense. Not to mention the liability you'd incur if you hurt someone.

Blue, we need to know more about you. If you're 16 years old, male, and have any citations on record, you'll certainly pay through the nose.

I pay about $300/year for full coverage on my Bandit 1200. Why would I want a Hayabusa? What insurance company isn't going to overcharge for the former fastest production bike on the planet? 8)

Holy ****...I just got off the phone with Progressive and Sentra, formerly Dairyland Ins. Co. and my quote was approx. 9,000.00 per year with Progressive and 13,000.00 a year with Sentra. Anyone else run into these problems insuring a bike and if so...what did you do? If ins. is that high, I'll just pay the tickets as I get them, would be much cheaper!!!

Hello ! are we really talking about $9,000.00 US dollars a year ? or is that a typo.

If it is actually $9,000.00 US a year then I must assume that you are a first time rider who is also blind and has no legs.

Of course if you are 16 and getting a GSX-R then I would not be that surprised, of course they don't expect anybody to pay those amounts they just don't want your business.

I pay $350 Can with full coverage ( including replacement value, in other words if next year I should have to have the bike replaced they will get me a new one and not take depreciation into account ).

Are you 23 seeking insurance on a Hayabusa?

Have you inquired about any other bikes yet? I'd be curious what they would want if you were to get full coverage on a Ninja 250? If the number becomes reasonable, then they just don't want to insure you on a 'Busa.

See what they have to say about some standard bike and some small cruiser.

Geez!! What alot of dough that is. When I first got my insurance it ran about $535.00 for a year (USD) that was full coverage including underinsured motorist coverage. I didn't even inquire about medical, that will drive up the cost skyhigh due to the body exposure. About 2 mos after that added my bike to husbands policy and the combined total for both bikes is about $625.00, full coverage on both bikes and underinsured motorist but no medical. Husband has a 2002 Yamaha Roadstar Warrior, and we both belong to the AMA. We are insured through Progressive, oh and by the way, I also carry roadside assistance on my Suzuki VS800, we are in Washington state, the west coast one. Good luck on finding resonable insurance, you really dont want to ride without some.

Ride safe, because if yo have to make a claim just forget about being able to pay the premiums next year ( and of course we want you to be around a long time ).
