I recently bought a 1400 intruder. Before I was riding a Volusia 800. The dry weight on both is aproximately the same. When I start to lean on the Volusia, I have to work a little to keep it up, especcially if I have a passenger. But on the 1400, I don't have this problem as much. Also I can roll it around in neutral easier, like backing it out of the garage and parking spaces. On the Volusia if there is the slightest bit of incline, I can't back it out by myself, at least not while sitting on it. I seem to be able to push the 1400 back without any problems.
Just wondered if anyone else that had ridden both has noticed this.

Also when riding, an this is a con for the 1400, it rides rougher, like a lighter bike would. I notice more bumps and grooves in the road that I don't seem to affect the Volusia.

I compared the two and found the same situation. VOlusia "seems" to be heavier...but it isn't. What might be is that the Intruder has a lower center of gravity. And yes, the Inturder has a bit rougher ride than my friends Volusia. But I like that though..I want to feel the road.

Also keep in mind that the Intruder 1400 is about 5 inches taller than the Volusia 800 (04 models). That should provide you more leverage in balance.

When I test drove my 1400, the first thing I realized was that it didn't handle nearly as well as the sportbike I was riding. Turning was awkward and somewhat sluggish. My father, who has never rode, and knows nothing about bikes said to me, "That front tire looks low, you should check that out." I did, and it was at 8 PSI. I looked in the manual and it was supposed to be between 32-40 PSI depending on load. Once I filled it up, man what a difference. I couldnt believe how much a little air in the tire would change the turning ratio and over comfort of the ride. Thanks Dad!

Assuming right air pressure in all tires concerned, center of gravity may make the 1400 seem lighter, bigger front wheel would reduce rolling resistance and the chopper type seat probably helps when moving backwards because your back is resting on the rear seat pad making it easier to move the bike, likewise for the slightly higher seat that should give you more purchase when pushing with your legs..
