Anybody have experience with LED's. I want to change the stock tail light bulb on my 2004 1500LC with a LED bulb. I've see several sizes and also Red or white. What color and size has worked best on this bike.

The bigger (more LEDs) the better. If you have the stock red lens, put in white LEDs, as they show up much brighter than the red ones do behing the red lens. If you want to go with the aftermarket clear lens, use red LEDs.

DrBob... I was curious about that as well,,, does the wiring have to be changed or is it just a bulb? I have seen the LED light bulbs in the auto parts stores that replace stock bulbs and claim to be brighter,, or are you talking about a whole new fixture? What is your opinion on that?

Just pop in the bulb. With turn signals, you usually have to add a load equalizer to get them to work right, but with a tail/ brake light just pop in the replacement LED bulb. An alternative would be to get a Tailblazer halogen bulb, which also flashes for about three seconds when you put on the brake. But it costs $$.
A replacement fixture is very bright, as most have dozens of LEDs packed into the area where you stock lens goes. But again, they cost $$$.

Cool,, I'll look into that,, I don't mind paying a few dollars if it saves my tail from getting rear ended. Because it would cost alot more to patch up my tail.

I did a several things on mine to increase visability at night, 'cause I ride a lot at night. For starters, I added a Kury run-brake-turn controller, which made my rear turn signals glow at half brightness as running lights whenever the bike is running. They also glow full strength as brake lights, but still flash as turn signals. I feel a lot safer, as I am now more than one bulb away from being invisable at night. Rear facing amber lights are illegal, so I added clear lenses and red bulbs (regular ones, not LEDs) for a total cost of about $70. Added clear lenses and amber bulbs up front too, 'cause they look cool ;)
Then I added the Tailblazer, which just snaps in in place of the regular tail ight bulb. It is brighter, being halogen, and it flashes when you put on the brakes. Cost was about $65. The bike really stands out at night when I brake, with the two turn signals glowing red and the center light flashing. I doesn't drive folks nuts though, as the flashing stops after a few seconds.
Next I added LED bolts around the plate, which are wired as running lights. You can't really see them during the day, but you can at night, and every little bit helps. They are mostly for show though, as they are not very bright. Cost was $10.
Lastly, I am going to add two little pods of LEDs on either side of the plate, wired as turn signals. Because the rear turn signals glow as running lights, there is not as much contrast between the on-off of the turn signal, so the LEDs should help them stand out more during the daylight.

Thanks for the info..
I've been looking at Superbightleds.com They have 1157 LED bulbs and on there site they say to use a Red LED behind the Red lense. I thought the white would be better but maybe it is to bright for the lense. My reasoning for the led taillight was that if my bulb burnt out I would have nothing as with the LEDS I would still have a rear light with only a missing LED or two.
I hear ya on the rear colors and that is why I wanted to use white as this bulb is the illumination for the plate light also which should be white.
I also want to add the Signal Dynamics Back Off Brake Light Flasher and hope that it will work with the LEDS.
The rear directionals on 2004 1500LC have been changed from the previous years and I cannot get clear lenses for them. If I could have I would have changed the bulbs to red and add the wiring kit to use them as turn signals/running lights & brake lights. Maybe some day they will come out with something.
Thanks again for the help.

vOlusia.. Thank-you!
I've checked cruisercustomizing in the past and they only had the 03 and prior available for the 1500LC.
Yes , I did just order them and I'll put in red bulbs.
Then I can install the (www.signaldynamics.com) Tri-Star Module and the light will work as a brake/directional light.
Thanks again.
