I picked up a 2001 Intruder 800 with 1,500 miles on it for $3,500 recently. The baffles were missing so I had to put on some Vance and Hines Classics II on it for another $300 (new). They sound GREAT! All in all, not a bad price. The bike was in PERFECT shape except for the fact that its running a little rich. It needs a tune-up probably but the guys at the shop said to wait 'till the spring.
I took the Motorcycle Safety course and can only say this. I scored a 100 on the written and 0 (thats good) on the practical. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is that EVERYONE take it. In fact, I think it should be required! BTW, I was a rider years ago. Consider this one simple statistic....
In NJ, 92% of fatal motorcycle accidents are ones that involve people who have NOT....I repeat NOT....taken the 2 day class. Just do it. You won't regret it.
Anyway, on to the bike. What can I say.....I LOVE THIS BIKE!! I've put on 700 miles through all conditions this month. Its fast, stable with a low center of gravity, fun to ride and turns lotsa heads. Funny, everybody is shocked that its not a Harley. I just tell them the truth....its alot cheaper and more dependable than a Harley. My neighbor has 2 (an 883 Sportster and a Fatboy) and he's sick to his stomach with what I paid for it for the quality. He's jealous that for half the money of even a used comporable sportster I have a shaft driven, liquid cooled beauty. I must say though that I am always looking for that elusive 6th gear
