I'm kind of a noobie, so I don't kow how to do this...I spent some time last night trying to remove the seat (both rider and passanger) on my 97 intruder 800 and couldn't figure out how. I heard this is supposed to be really easy, but obviously not to easy for me :)
Could anybody tell me how to remove the thing?

Wow I'm glad I'm not the only person who had trouble with this at first.

I'm not sure about the Intruder but on the 97 Marauder there is a keyhole on the frame of the bike below the back end of the front seat and quite far down. On the Marauder it is actually behind the passenger peg when that is flipped up. You unlock that with your ignition key and the front seat can then be taken off. Most likely the front seat covers the bolts for the passenger seat.

You have to pull off the two side covers, which are held on with one bolt each. Remove the bolt (the left side one is at the very bottom, the right side one is at the front/top corner) on each cover and pull it away from the bike: each has two rubber gromits that hold it onto little studs on the frame.
After the side panels are off, you will see the two bolts holding the drivers seat on, one on each side. Once you undo them, lift the front of the driver's seat up and then pull it forward, as the rear has a tab that goes under a bracket. Once the driver's seat is off, you will see the two bolts holding the passenger seat on, bolted through the front of the passenger seat. Pull the passenger seat up and forward. The sissy bar pad is just held in place with rubber grommets, so just pull it forward to remove it and access the tool box.

THANKS! @DrBob, for this rescue, I was lost as well. Even though I'm reading this a decade after you wrote it!
