Mechanical problems with your motorcycle can be very trying... especially when you're the one doing the wrenching on them.

The real frustrating part is how long it can take you to narrow down all the possibilities to finally find the source of your problem...

Debugging is a PITA

(still haven't found the source to my rattling problem, but keep getting closer....... I hope)

I've never debugged anything mechanically, but I have worked on my built computer, LEGOS and lines of code when I used to web design. The funny thing about debugging, besides being hellishly annoying, is that you often fix alot of unseen problems, and improve on all kinds of stuff along the way to finding the source of a specific problem that got you tinkering with **** to begin with. Funny huh?

I am not an optimist!

Heh... true... You shoulda seen the pile of greasy gunk that I cleaned out behind my main sprocket cover. It's like a glorified chain-guard (reminiscent of a chainsaw) that just collects all the crap that your chain might pick up. I think the pile was mainly due to a mistake of mine. I used a Chain-wax product instead of Chain Lube. The chain-wax is good for a storage situation (winter storage etc.), but not the best for a regular riding lubrication. So, I think it dumped a bunch of it off inside that cover and then any and all debris just stuck to it and started to build the pile. It's good to have a good degreaser (simple green) to clean it all up)... Now if only I can find the real source of my problem.

I've basically done everything externally that I can. Next step is draining the oil and pulling the clutch cover off. I'll be replacing the clutch friction discs and springs while I'm in there, and hopefully finding the source of this god-awful metallic rattle that I hear between 4000 and 5000 rpms.
