Hello all,

Just thought I would come in and introduce myself since I just attained my class M liscence by completing the MSF course. I also bought a 95 Katana 600 with 10,300 miles on it.

Quick question - the bike I bought should be a great first bike, it was relatively cheap ($3k), runs real well, and I got it from a respected dealer in the area so it come with a warranty. But, it has purple rims and decals! I am not interested in looking like the coolest guy on the streets, but I am interested in getting the decals off and maybe even spray painting the rims. Any one tried this before? Any suggestions? I was just going to use some water and a heat gun to get the decals off, and then buff the glue off with some car wax (which i heard works well).

Thanks

Hi and welcome,
Decals will peel off if you heat them with a hairdrier, any residue left will come off with a bit of white spirit or something similar.

When i was younger i had a limegreen ninja 250.
it came with the crappy gray rims.
i took em off and got some $10 a can epoxy spray paint and painted em.
when your goin to do that (epoxy only) you use paint thinner and a rough brillo pad to get the coat off it and to roughen it up. when u do the process slowly and up to 5 coats. 1 coat then let it sit and dry then repeat.
it has to be at 70degrees F on the rims otherwise they wont dry and they could bubble. after i did that to mine (in lime green) they help up perfectly well and i couldnt be more pleased. if you are looking for a really high qual job u can look into haveing them powder coated which in most places wont run more that 50 a rim.
