Hello, I am new to the forums and am getting ready to purchase a brand new Katana 600. I would like to know what I can expect to pay as an "out the door" price. The dealership in my area does not have the blue katanas in stock but they said that they can find me one. Will this affect my negotiations with them? Buy the way, I will be writing them a check, so I don't know how this will affect the price. Thanks in advance.

You can usually negotiate more on an in stock bike. You can really negotiate on a leftover year model new bike. Of course, a used bike is letting somebody else eat a lot of depreciation. Maybe look for a used 2000 - 2001 model and save a few thousand dollars? 8)

Some dealers (like the ones around here) aren't willing to negotiate at all, even on used bikes. In fact, one dealership in Swansea wanted $7,900 for a new 2003 GSXR-600 and it was the only one next to the 2004 models listed at $8,099. They wouldn't budge on the price. They know someone will pay full price for the bike, so they'll keep it there until it sells, which it did about two weeks later. That's why I had to drive 1 1/2 hours out of my way to buy from a dealer that would negotiate with me. Be sure to shop around and check your offers.

spend more time on talking and more money you save........my experience is to find the internet sales for the dealer and give them your desired price. however, summer is a hot season for bikes....so good luck

I talked my dealer from $8100 for a 2004 GSXR 600 to $7700 and I said once I sold my old bike I'd come back. In about 2 weeks I sold the old one and when I went back he said, "What did I quote you again?" I said $7300 and he gave me a suprised look and said OK.

I got one of those invoices from cyclebuy.com and the bike costs the dealer about 5500 dollars with freight and setup. I will see what I can do. Thanks for the input people.

Jaydog...that was clever. 8) I actually found my 04 gixxer 600 on www.cycletrader.com, which linked me to a bike on ebay. A dealership was auctioning off one gixxer 600 (your color choice) for $7,200 and the buy it now price was $7,300. Luckily, the dealership was about 1 1/2 hours away from me, so I called him up, told him I'd talk to my credit union about it that day, and he put a SOLD sign on it for me right then. :) Yeah, it was kind of out of the way, but considering no one around here is negotiable, it was well worth it.

I don't know anything about XTREME SUZUKI, but if you decide to buy a bike from a dealer that's more than an hours drive away, it's a good idea to have him fax, or e-mail you the invoice. Have him sign it, and list the out the door price. I know a guy that negotiated a price over the phone with a dealer in Chicago. My friend bought a plane ticket, and flew to Chicago, flagged a cab to take him to the dealership, intending to ride his new bike home. When he got there the dealer tacked about $700.00 on to the price of the bike for freight and set up. This was before the days of computers, so my friend had had them mail him a invoice ahead of time. He had the invoice in his hand, but he haden't noticed that it wasn't signed. He asked for the salesman that he had talked to on the phone, and they told him that no one by that name worked there. He was so mad, that he just about got himself arrested for the ruckus that he raised. He came home on the bus.

This is a very good advise!

I bought my bike from a dealer about 3 plus hours away from Philadelphia. It was a fun experience and most certain a worth one. I started email via Cycletraders.com with a different name and a second email under my aol. In case it didn't go well, well dump it and keep going.
I contacted dealers even in Ohio. I emailed and called. Every call I followed by an email to get some black and white proof if need be. I even used some of the lowest price offers via Inet with some of my local dealers. They spreaded from BS relationship with your local dealer. Dealers hate when people go out of the area to only save a few bucks. To even "You are a lier nobody will sell that bike for so little. "I don't care i know I can sell it. So I am not desperate. Nobody will sell that low man." Oh well, Up and away I went. Just before going away I called again and asked the sales person to email me with our price agreement for me to show my bank. i just wanted proof verification of the offer still the same and no "I forgot or i never said that" It worked out well in the end. They even gave more in perks.
You need proof. If they scam you them report it to BBB and the likes.

Good Luck!!!

BTW In terms of that setup fee. You are better of coming home empty handed than paying it. It is the scam of the century. If true a charge, they are chargin customers for their mechanics. i don't pay for document fees. i don't pay for setup or delivery charges. If they want to be ridiculous then Offer to take your own paper and have them write on it. Of course not. I won't fit their printers. Their problem!

Uhh, this thread was a year and a half old when it was resurrected. If anyone wants to discuss current Katana prices, start a new one.
