I am new to the motorcycle community (this past summer) and I want to learn how to do my own maintenance and I really haven't had any experience with engines. I just would like to know how to do the basic things to keep me on the road. Any suggestions? :?

Sure. When something needs upkeep, upgrade, repair, or replacement, read the manual and ask questions. That's all there is to it. You will learn far more by doing than by reading or watching.
Kudos for wanting to learn the bike. Get a signature up so we know what you're riding. Chances are, one of us knows of a forum specifically for your bike. Then you'll have all the tools.
