Advice please: I am looking at buying a 2009 M50 all of the lights on which have been changed to LED. My concern is that the draw is significantly less than stock lighting, therefore the 'extra" power can heat / overheat the stator. Thanks

Won't happen; not for that reason at least.

That is what the regulator is for.

BUT.....regardless of what bike you own that is that old.....it is a good idea to check the stator connector to be sure it hasn't been overheating. Many do and that can fry your stator if it eventually shorts out.
