Hey M50 owners, anyone thought of what mods you're gonna do yet?

I plan on doing away with the front & rear reflector/tag mounts, check into the C50 aftermarket exhausts & Power Commander, swap the front signals for something that matches the bike more closely & maybe something with the air filter.

Volusia Mods

Howdy,

I own a 2003 Volusia which is very similar to your bike...I believe just a different body kit for the most part. My bike is in no way "street legal," but the mods are awesome. First I got rid of all the reflectors, took the license plate mount off and mounted the plate directly to the rear fender. I replaced the stock pipes with some Cobra drag pipes (not legal) and took the baffles out, which sounds better than most Harley's I hear. I lowered it 1.5 inches in the rear. Replaced the marker signals with aftermarket bullet shaped markers with clear lenses and lights (not legal). I took the Volusia plastic symbols off the tank and have ghost flames on the tank and front fender. lastly, and this is my favorite, I installed a kit that shoots flames out of the dual exhaust (definitively not legal). The kit kills the motor when activated, while simotaneously igniting two spark plugs in the exhaust pipes. I get about 2 foot flames out of it.

Its a far cry from stock, and just from looking, you cant tell its a Volusia. I love it and would take it over a Harley anyday.

i got the Arlen Ness mirrors on last night and they look sweet...pics to come this weekend.

next i want to drill my exhaust and see how that goes before i get into some cobra slipons or anything...

have been thinking about what to do with reflectors and signals....too many colors on there. will probably go clear with colored bulbs at some point. (i did that with my Black RX8 to get rid of the orange on it).

LED's are on my list for when i go to shows or events just for fun. (going to do blue i think so wont be legal while in the street...but might do green)

also i wouldlike to move the plate from hanging off the back of the bumper...not sure how yet though. it seems the side mount ones use the spring which isnt on the M50..have to look into it a little more.


keep me posted on what you do. maybe we could even get together and do the work and bounce ideas?

I drilled my Intruder exhausts the way it discribes on Wolf's site. My thought is it came out pretty loud. I wear a full helmet and on a 30 + mile ride I'm going to start wearing earplugs. I'd suggest if you're going this way (which isn't at all a bad plan), do two big holes thru two baffles and try it for a bit, if more needed do the third hole and see what you've got. Then go in and start on the third baffle (drill one hole, try it, second hole, try it, third hole, try it.) Last you do the center pipe. (Assuming you have the same muffle setup as the Intruder)

Be careful about any blue lights showing. You're going to get unwelcome attention right away with that. Just a caution.

isnt the basic drill only through 2 baffles with 3 holes and one hole in center of 3rd baffle? not all three holes in 3rd baffle? i am actually worried about the Fuel Injection needed to be programmed after the drill? is anyone hving problems with running lean?

and if i do blue, then they will only be on during shows and events, not on the road. that is why i wanted to do green, but the blue would match better since i have blue flake in my black paint. also easier to find other equipment in blue/black combo.

The site shows drilling the 1st (back) baffle with 3 ea. 1" holes, the second with 6 ea. 1/2" and the third with 3 ea. 3/8" then the center hole thru three baffles with 1/2"

That's the way I did it. Just seems loud to me while riding. Listen to it while my daughter rode by and it isn't too bad to the bystander.

Blue lights statement was just a caution. You do however you feel comfortable.

OH! that is a different drill pattern than listed on DrBob's site. there is a thread started by Hunter i believe about drilling. and in that thread there is a link to the site with a good section view of the drill pattern they used. less holes may mean less noise so when i finally do get the balls to do it, i am going to start with 2 in the outer ones and one down center...then go to three if i feel the need (the need for speed...sorry had to quote Top Gun...hahaha)

Hey, I was looking at the windshield you can buy....not very tall at all. So for someone like me that is 6'2" will not block much wind. Anyone know any other options that are available? Please let me know any other places I can order a windshield that is a little tall...and maybe a little cheaper!!!
