Hello Everyone:

Right now I have a TRS Yoshimura Pipe on my Gixxer 750 2004. What do you think of me getting a BMC Race air filter and having the system remapped by the dealer. The K&N filter now is on shipping hold. The filter will cost me like 80 bucks and the remap 50.

I'm told that I could get another boost of 5% to 10% horsepower.

All opinions welcome.

Thanks in advance.

How serious are you? To get the most out of the bike I refer you to the below quote. If you're looking for dyno bragging rights then go with what you are looking at.

by Peter McLaren

Outside of the pit lane, the importance of tyres is often overlooked, but while they may look relatively modest - being less eye-catching than aerodynamic bodywork and much quieter than a high revving engine - the rest of a racing motorcycle is largely useless without them.

That is because winning motor races is fundamentally about consistently generating greater acceleration forces at the tyre contact patches – in all directions (forward motion, braking and cornering) – than your rivals can.

As such, it's no exaggeration to say that tyres can decide races and in turn world championships; a 1% increase in tyre grip (whether found through rubber, chassis or suspension improvements) is much more valuable - in terms of increasing those acceleration forces - than a 1% increase in horsepower.

So you're saying that you think it is a waste of money to do this? What I'm doing actually is personalizing the bike. Accessorizing it. Figured I have the money why not.

rather than waste $50 to remap it, get the pwoer commancder for around $300 and you can play with around 12 diff fuel maps and if you switch exhaust you can change the fuel map. You can disconnect it when you don't want it being used. You just have more options and if you change bikes, you can sell it. My micron exhaust should be here to put on sat and my air filter is on hold (k&n). I'll probably get the commander next season along with an air shifter. Following that I dont think I need much else. Get a darker windscreen, they make you so much faster.... :D

You know I looked at the power commander. To me it seemed that I would really only ever use one setting out of the 12. The switch would give me three though. That's the reason I thought of just getting the filter and then getting it mapped.

Yeah, Why not?

Yeah, if you don't care about how your bike handles, or learning how to gain speed through handling, then by all means, mod the hell out of the exhaust.

Nope, I'm saying that your money could be better spent.

Buy yourself some better gear....do you have leathers? Good boots? gloves? helmet?

Even better than modding your bike would be to go to a track day or sign up for a riding school

Think about it, you have what is considered the perfect sport bike by PROFESSIONALS! There is no way that you will ever see 60% of the bikes capabilities on the street and probably never see 80% on a track.

Improve yourself and your bike will reward you more than any air filter, fuel map or exhaust ever could!

While I agree with Rook here, the cost doesn't seem unreasonable for the modifications you are proposing. I'd say mod the bike AND go to track day.

I don't have a track in my area (or in my entire province!) and I would kill to have a day on the track, I'm even considering a trip to Nova Scotia next year so I can sign up for a riding school - and I've been riding since I was six years old!

I consider myself a responsible rider so would never try those kinds of speeds and cornering on the street. Rather than wheelies or stoppies, I'd love to wear knee sliders and feel what it's like to get that knee on the ground... ahhh, guess I'll have to be content with the snowmobile until spring breaks again...

Unless you are using the bike for nothing other than track purposes do not get the BMC race filter. Get the street version. The race does allow more air flow but also lets more debis in with minimal gains over the street version. If you want to keep the engine for a good period of time then be smart about what you do to it.

Wow I love this forum. Many sensible posters here unlike some other forums I frequent. One in particular seems to specialize in extreme mods (chrome, lowering kits, turbo systems, etc).

I'm keeping my Hayabusa stock. Any extra cash I invest in it will be in better synthetic oil, or even better rubber (when the times come to change each). Other good investments: the best protective gear you can afford and practical stuff like good luggage.

The day I feel I'm just not getting enough performance from my stock Hayabusa and am essentially being "held back" by it on the street - well, I figure late that same afternoon, Suzuki will magically offer me a full factory sponsored ride in WSB or something.

Hello Hardware - I'm in Stephenville, west coast. You from Newfoundland and Labrador (or have visited)?

And with a Busa, I don't think you have much worry about having to invest in performance parts! Great advice on the luggage and other accessories. I did a fair amout of touring this summer with a backpack bungeed onto the back seat. I picked up a set of saddlebags for next year (and it just so happens they fit my Ski-doo as well!).

Interesting you should say that. Now I calld BMC...customer service and checked. The race filter I was told does allow alittle bit more airflow...but that it is cyndrical or something compared to flat..but the partical prevention of any dirt or dust should be the same.

With all respect..could you be mistaken? And what makes you say the debris

this isnt my argument but i wouldnt trust the judgement of someone getting pd $8 an hour to answer questions. i would talk to a bmc dealer, particularly a service manager or tech. customer service isn't technical service.

I'm talking about a different Pasadena, which was actually named after the one in Cali.
