Purchaed the OEM Suzuki billet sideplates and low passenger backrest. When I took the first two bolts out of the left fender strut, it appears that the inside mounting nut of the front one slipped forward a bit and now I am unable to get the new (or old) bolt back in. :eek:crap:

Anyone else have this problem, and hopefully a solution?

Had to drive all over town to get a torque wrench that I could use on this only to find myself dead in the water.

Any suggestions appreciated, I have a daughter dying for a ride when I get the backrest on.

Think this may be addressed in other threads - specifically regarding mounting saddle bags - but the problem is the same. And that front left one seems to be the worst culprit.

NEVER NEVER NEVER totally remove all 4 fender bolts at the same time. But what you do want to do is LOOSEN all 4 fender bolts. As you take each one out, install whatever, and replace, if you'll reach back or under and rock the fender up and down, you'll be able to get that front one lined back up and the bolt'll slip right in.

And exercise some patience. First time I tried this, it took about half an hour to get the front one lined back up. Second time it took about 1 minute.

I had this same problem mounting the backrest on my M50. The right side slid way forward when I took off the bolts. I was able to really push and tork on the fender and finally get the new bolt in. PUt it was a pain in the butt!!!

When you mount the backrest did you use the aluminum spacers that came with it? I started to install the OEM backrest and mount set, but the mounts seem to be too far apart to install the backrest. At least a 1/2" gap on either side of the backrest, is this normal or am I doing something wrong. They are installed in this order, fender strut; spacer; billet plate;thin washer with bolt running through all.
Thanks in advance for any info, Don

That M95 is even meaner looking,, plus it has over 1500cc's to back up that mean look.
If I had a pot of gold there would be a M95 in the garage as well,, no any leprechaun's?

Trouble with getting the M95 is you are just buying a repackaged Kawaski bike. They are discontinuing that model for 2006 to come out with their own Suzuki model. I think it was going to be a M105 but I don't recall for certain.

Oh yeah,, that is cool,,, didn't know that. I will have to definately check that out. I thought the M95 was pretty tough,, is the Kawasaki not that good of a bike or are they about even on build quality? I have always rode Suzukis,, DR125, DR250, DR350, and now the Intruder 1500,,, the only other bikes I have ever owned was a 1969 Honda Dream 161cc, and a 1975 Yamaha 125 Enduro (not sure about the year, don't remember exactly).
Never had a Kawasaki,, just thought the M95 was pretty tough looking and the 1500+ cc's was a big plus.
