Man, in preparing for my upcoming move, I had to get my '87 750 ready. She has been sitting under a cover for basically a year. Only had her out once since last August to test some carburetors. Well, I was shocked at the condition she is in.
I pulled the tank to drain the fuel. Rust cancer has started to set in on the outside in several spots.
I sanded most of it out. Looks like the tank should be OK. I might weld it in a couple of spots to make sure. I'm glad I caught that in time (hopefully). The chain had started to rust, the oil was extremely nasty (track days in 100+ degree heat will do that), there was body mounting brackets missing, corrosion and dirt/dust everywhere, DAMN!
I can't wait to have my garage/shop! I have having a motor built for her right now. When I get my garage set up in San Antonio, she will be the FIRST project I totally go through. I will be pulling her down to the frame, and doing a frame-up restoration.
I have had her since 1991, and I am pissed at myself for letting it get this bad. Racing these past two seasons has really taken all of my time. My 1100 streetbike has also taken a lot of work to get running as well.
RRRRRRRRRRRRR . . . I hope she forgives me!
