Ohlins makes the best from what I hear.FIVEINCH said:I'm in the market for my first performance accessory: steering dampener.
I'm thinking an electronic dampener, but I'm sure the hydraulic are very reliable and are definitely less complex in design.
Any recommendations?
It doesn't look like you have a problem spending money for upgrades Jaydog. Scotts (made by Ohlin) is a very good damper to have. For a slightly less expensive one, GPR also makes a good rotary damper from what friends who have it tell me. These type of dampers allow for on-the-fly adjustments. The Ohlin hydraulic type damper is also nice but I read that it's more susceptible to damage in the event of a crash which is not as likely on the rotary style.jaydog19833 said:I would rather have my balls pounded flat with a wooden mallet than spend $405.00 on a steering damper!!
I'm curious . . . what about it do you like?soad said:i like this one: http://www.kneedraggers.com/details/22-SCOTTS-29

I got a generic 37mm fork clamp for the damper from www.denniskirk.com.
the damper itself is off of a '01 gsxr 600. I had to drill a hole in the frame to mount it, although it doesn't take a very large hole to do this. I use a 1/4inch bolt to mount it along with the clamp.
I had to use a hammer to reshape the coolant overflow tank, took like 2 minutes to do this and I retain use of the tank. This was a very interesting way to engineer this setup.
I love the steering damper though, it makes curves smooth and bumps in the road aren't nearly as intrusive.
UPDATE: After over 6 months of use I still love the damper, although I don't really remember what it was like without it.
