I have not brought my cycle yet. But I would like opinions about the folks that do have the M50. I am looking at the red one, and I really dont like red, but this M50 I dont know I just have to have it.
I would like to have some opinion about it and if anyone has taken theirs on long trips.

Thanks
Denise

Hey Dennie, aren't you sort of new to riding?? If not then please disregard this question, but if you are then most of the folks in here will try and steer you towards something a bit smaller and lighter as a first bike. Take a run through the search tab for noobie, or newbie, or any variation on that and you will see the advice offered up to most new riders.

I thought my Marauder was a pretty forgiving bike for a newbie but the M50 is about a 100lbs heavier and I've taken a spill or two on the Marauder that might not have happened on a smaller/lighter bike. So yeah I'd worry about a new rider with a new M50

Wow I sat on a red M50 just like 3 hours ago when I was getting some rear brake pads for my SV. I must say I'm pretty impressed with the look of the Muscle version of the 50 class. Felt good and comfy on the dealer floor, just wish the handle bars were a little shorter in lenght (i have long arms) so I could fell less cramped up top.

Phiny has one and has put at least 3-4k on his black M50 by now. Wouldn't mind taking one of those for a test ride one day. It's got a great muscular athletic look to it.

I got my M50 just about a month ago and would go buy it all over again. Got to take my first real ride this weekend out in the country. Note-- this is a great cruiser. Some folks have said the seat is uncomfortable, but I've not noticed that as yet-- longest ride has been about 130 miles one afternoon.

Looks good, rides smooth, sounds great and for the price you can't beat it. Best of luck in your decision.

It's funny. I didn't care for the red either, until I saw one outside and rode it for a test ride. I ended up buying a blue M50 (I had pre-ordered the blue), but now I wish I had bought the red. The red is just plain sassy looking, I think. Plus it is MUCH easier to see.

I know that doesn't answer your question about long trips. But I know what you mean about just having to have it. So did I. Now I do (as of yesterday) and couldn't be happier.

I think a red bike would be totally cool, especially for a girl. Hope that's not insulting. It certainly is not meant to be.

owner of black M50

my first street bike (i have been riding a 250 cc dirt bike about 5 years )
i have to say it is a great bike for a beginner but i feel i will out grow it
in about a year or 2. wish they would come out with say a 1200 or so cc
bike in the same style as the M50. as for comfort i heard people complain
about the seat but it has not bothered me. i have had people ask me how
much it cost and i tell them to guess and they say anywhere from 10,000
to 14,000 . so i tell them i'll sell it to them for 9,000 lol  . i hope
there will be more aftermarket parts for this bike soon

I don't understand this whole "out grow" it thing. My guess is that the vast majority of riders would never truely outgrow a 650. I don't mean just keeping it on two wheels, I mean pushing it to the absolute max and getting everything out of it.

Update: I've had the bike for five days now. I like it even better now then when I first got it. I can understand the concern about "outgrowing" the bike, though. It would be a luxury to have a little extra power in reserve at highway speeds (70-80 mph), but just typing that it sounds a bit ridiculous. I just know that when I'm up around 70 on the highway I can tell I'm near the end of my power band. There's a bit more, mind you, but the revs are pretty high.

That said, I think the M50 is close to an ideal bike for a beginning rider - as long as you've taken your MSF course (and passed). It's very easy to ride and a heck of a lot of fun. I know a lot of people here will say don't bother with a new bike, but I'm sure glad I did.

One last thing: On the power issue - I weigh 200 lbs even. I'm guessing you don't weigh that much; in which case any possible power issue is that much more irrelevant for you.

Get the bike. You will not regret it.

You still have plenty of power at 70-80mph. These V-twins are high reving engines, they can run all day at those high RPMs too. After the break-in period is over give the throttle a twist at 70mph, I don't think you'll be dissapointed.

That sounds very odd to me. My C50 pulls up to 90 with a lot of strength and will keep going past that. I'm not a fan of Interstate riding, but I've had no problems with power at Interstate speeds for the 5000 miles I've ridden the C50. The guys I ride with do not leave me in the dust, and their bikes are mainly larger displacement cruisers. I weigh over 200 pounds, but I find the C50 pulls like a tractor - very nice torque and gearing.

About the M50: It is an awesome bike that I would enjoy - but I find the C50 a little better set up for the 2 up riding I do a lot of. I wouldn't spend that much money for my first bike though - I'd go with something lighter and less expensive.

I hate to say it, but while I was riding around a bit today I realized that when I was doing '70-80' on the interstate I'm pretty sure I still had one gear left.
Duh!

Anyway, forget what I said about power issues.

My c50t feels like it begins to get unstable at speeds over 75 which I attributed to the windshield. Do you feel that with yours? If not what height is your windshield set at? The last bike I had with a windshield had one of the Windjammer fairings (no longer being made) and was very stable at high speeds but the windshield had quite a tilt to it.
