i have a 93/94 (not shure) suzuki katana and it has the same metzeler tires and stock chain form off the assembly line. i need both new tires and chain.

1. should i buy a chain and sprocket kit, or just a chain, the person who had the bike before me just rode the bike, no hard wear and tear wheeling on the chain, but the chain is so stretched, you can go arround the front sprocket 2wice. im not too shure on how to check sprocket life any tips would help.

2. i have 110/80-17 front
150/70-17 rear
I want a sporty feel but without having to buy diffrent rim sizes. the only sporty tire i can find for my bike is the Dunlop D205. is this a sporty feeling tire, will i notice a traction increase from the stock metezelers? if not could anyone recommend and tires/chains/sprockets

Hey bubba,

IMHO, you should always replace the chain and the sprockets at the same time. It costs a bit more, but should extend the life of the new chain.

I would put new tires on that bike - after 10 years, the old rubber is no longer safe. I wouldn't change the dimensions, though. That could have negative effects on handling and safety. Just putting new tires on the bike will improve the ride - new rubber will perform much better than 10 or 11 year old tires.

I'm no expert when it comes to tires ... I'm still on my original set, and won't be replacing them until the end of the coming season ... Gixxerdale or 87gsxrnut will probably be able to give you more information ...

Sprockets get worn out because of a bad chain. Not the other way around. The chain is designed to fit into the grooves on the sprocket and as it strecthes it places more wear and tear on the sprockets and can even break teeth off. If your chain is bad/loose, change both.

I like the Bridgestone Battlax tires myself, they have good
handling and wear characteristics. That is what comes on
the 1200 Bandits.

Sorry, but I hate the battlax tires. Give Maxxis a try, they're great tires. Metzeler's would be my second choice.

Well, on tires I gotta say that Dunlop has given me distance and cheap lil Ching Shin has held the road nicely on my performance machines.Side note on the Ching Shin- I hate it when I spin the rim on the tire and rip my valve off.But the tire do bite the road.

I will agree with the I hate the battle axe, the handle like old crap, that's what my bike came with, I've since fallen in love with the michelin pilot sport HPX, but for the lower powered kat, I'd just get the regular pilot sports. They hold really well, I've rubbed the front tire edge to edge.
