ok everyone, I have decided to add some neon lights to my ride. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what wires to tap them in to or what wires need to run from where to where? Sorry if this is lame, but I do not know and if someone can help guide me in the right direction, I believe I can hook them up. Your help is appreciated! Thanks a bunch, Ican

The question lame, or the neon?

It's not a lame question, anyway. You need to get to the fuse block. There may be an open slot, or you could piggyback a used one with a part from Radio Shack.

Now about the neon... If you prefer to hang around Dairy Queen looking cool, I guess. I prefer to ride.

Ok I'll admit it - I put yellow neon under my Gixxer... I also used StreetGlow, 4 - 9" inch neon tubes. Safety wise, makes my bike much more seen at night. Anyway, instead of cutting into my harness, I direct wired using a toggle switch hidden under my rear seat in that compartment. This way, everything is competely reversable (sp?). I attached the tubes with wireties - no drilling, cutting, etc.

can you get me some close up pictures or do you not have access to a digital cam? Thanks for your response.

I'm at work now but will be happy to try and photograph where I mounted and how I wired when I get home tonight... just let me know your email address... I will tell you that I had to remove one fairing to install. It would be easier to install if you remove both, but I was able to do it with only removing one.

It mostly depends on the mood of the cop and the time you're out at night. I had those green LED lights on my windshield washers on my car. I drove by cops at night time with them on for about 3 weeks with no problem. Then, I was coming home from a party one night around 1 am and I was the only car on the road. I saw two cop cars off in a parking lot, parked inversely so they could talk. Sure enough, one of them came after me because of the green LED lights. I didn't get a warning. I got a $80 ticket and charged with having "illegal equipment on vehicle." The cop told me I can have them on as long as I'm parked, but once I hit the road, that's it.

yea, I had that same problem when I was a teen with a license plate holder thingy, so I know what your saying.

Since some of the guys I ride with that have been at it for years don't have any troubles around here (Purdue University) then I'm not gonna worry to much about it. I appreciate you bringing that to my attention though man! Now if I get a ticket, I can say you told me so

That being said, I saw a blue/white TL1000R one night with blue neon underneath and it looked awesome, but as he was driving off I was thinking..."that's got to be a cop magnet." I can't help but wonder if he ever got pulled over for it. I never saw him again so I never got a chance to ask him.

I forgot to ask, what kind of bike do you have?

I should mention that here it is illegal too, but have yet to have any problems. Also, the nicehing about having a toggle is you can turn it on and off as you please. I'm not saying turn it off if you see a cop - that will attract more attention. But if you chose not to ride one night with it, you can just flep 'em off.

EXACTLY MAN :D

Yea, so when I am at Taco Bell looking cool and I want to go in, I can switch them on while I grab a Taco Grande. That is perfect..... but yea, I want the option of turning them off and on whenever I want. Thanks again for bringing the legalality issues up to me because I thought it was all good.
