Hi everyone, first post here :D

So, ill egt to the point. I have some crappy ass honda 250 roadbike from about 1975. I am seriously interested in getting a new bike. Preferably a katana 750. But i have read reviews and hear nothing but bad things. Alternatively, i come here and hear mixed feelings about it. So heres my question: Should i get the 600, or stick to getting the 750? I have this serious problem of getting a new vehicle, thinking it rocks, then 5 months later wanting something faster. Do you guys think the 750 has enough power to keep me interested for long? I never plan to hit top speed in this, but do you guys have any ideas about how good the top speed/acceleration is?

My current car hits 60 mph in about 7 seconds, am i going to be blown away by the bike, or am i going to want to blow away the bike? thanks for any replies :D

The only negative comments we get about the 750 are from people who have never ridden and think that the only bike worth your while is a GSX-R because on paper the R's have more power.

The 750 Kat is an excellent bike, 92hp, 52lb/ft torque, weight 465lbs, quarter mile in 11.5sec, it will beat your car in 0-60.Much more comfortable than the R's, more than enough bike for anybody off a racetrack.

think about this. you see a hella lot more cruisers on the road than gixxers. reason is because they are more comfortable for long rides. The Kat is almost like a cruiser form of the gixxer.

But all speedfreaks want more power. You can never have enough. Why do you think people put turbo's on a Busa?

air vs. liquid cooling

how does the katana's air cooled engine tolerate hot summer days and traffic? would the gsxr600 be better for commuting?

Katana has the fan that reacts to hot tempertured days, in traffic. It will run as long as necessary. Your leg will get nice and warm from the air being blown from the engine.

The GSXR is more for sporting around and short rides, when it comes to comfort. I would still spend the money and get the GSXR.

If you do not want to be disappointed months after buying your bike... I would side with Jonathan and say get the GSXR. Going from a 1975 honda to a new Katana would be a world of difference, however, after riding for a while and realizing that most 600 sport bikes are faster than you, you might consider sacrificing a little comfort. I really believe that your arms will get tired no matter what bike you ride. I had a 1500LC cruiser for 4 years and my hands would fall asleep on long rides just like they do with my TLR.

Get the Gixxer  !!

It really depends on what you want to do with the bike. The Katana 750 is a midrange tuned GSXR750 motor from the mid 80s. It will run forever and will easily walk away from any normal production car both 0-60, in the 1/4 and top out around 140. It will do all this in relative comfort.

A new GSXR 600 will romp all over the Kat in all performance catagories, again, depending on skill. It will also make your wrists numb after about 20 minutes depending on your riding style. It will carve canyons with the best of them. It will cost more for insurance. It will be harder on tires. It will be less forgiving of mistakes.

Recently at the racetrack in Pahrump Navada Jason Pridmore was taking passengers around the track on a Kat 750. Passing anything and everything in front of him. Inside, outside, whatever wherever. From ZX12s to GSXRs to CBR 954s. All ridden by friends of mine who are not slow riders.

If you want to carve canyons and do trackdays, get the GSXR. If you want to cruise to breakfast weekend mornings and have a blast doing it, get the Kat. Get the right bike for you.

I really like my 95 Kat 750. It's also really easy to get a great deal on one. I have no experience with GSXRs, but I did have a 94 CBR600 at one time. The CBR was faster and technically handled better, but it was much more uncomfortable. The Kat is comfortable even after a couple hours riding where the CBR was not. If you understand what the Katana is good at when you purchase it, you won't be disappointed. If you want the newest and the fastest, get something else.
