Hello all.

32 yrs old, never ridden before and about to get my FIRST bike. Im already signed up for the DOT motorcycle driving course here in tampa and cant wait to get riding. I drive an 04 Black RX-8 right now (hence the avatar).

Ive been doing some research and am IN LOVE with the 05 Boulevard M50. The size, looks, weight, shaft drive, fuel injection....all perfect for what i want.

Tried doing a search for it on here, but i think "M50" is too short of a search option. Did find a couple mentions of it, but am really interested in knowing EXACTLY when it is going to hit the stores? I close on a house on Jan 14, so cant do anything till then, but once that is over i want to be up on two wheels ASAP! Anyone have reliable infor or a good site to visit?

I have been very active in the two car forums i have been members of (Cougar and RX-8 ) and I look forward to hanging out on here and learning everything i can about bikes, and maybe even getting out to some cruises once i get comfortable with my bike. I plan on being at bike week in Daytona as long as the bike is out by then (if it isnt i may be renting one just to be able to go with my friends).

Consider reconsidering.

i guess because i have a small, quick sleek looking car i should be getting onto a crotch rocket of a motorcycle too....but i drive my car like a maniac because i feel pretty safe in it....on a bike i just want to enjoy fresh air in my face and sunshine on my back. probably wont go any faster than 70 or 75 mph. couple friends of mine and i are planning to go to Canton OH to the Football HOF on the bikes. THAT is a LONG ride from Tampa!

RX8 = maniac
Cruiser = NO maniac

wow...i would have thought the bike was a lot faster than a car...but like i mentioned, not in this for speed, just cruising down the road enjoying my bike. my best friend bought a Honda VTX 1300 and his brother wants to get an 1800 or maybe a harley...so we just want to "cruise" together.

and again...i am 32...not a young kid looking to kill myself! heh

Welcome, Pinhy (you golf?) Inspiron did mean the M50.. I've had my C50 for several months now. Black, btw... nice color choice :) You're friends with the 1300 and wanting to buy an 1800 - please tell me that's not their first bikes. Honestly, I know a couple of guys that started on 800's like the C50 (formerly Volusia), and within a couple of years had traded up for bigger bikes. Others have happily stayed with the smaller displacement. Me, I'm perfectly happy with the 800. Down the road, who knows? But, as one who drove nothing but small, zippy cars for 20 years, I've found myself quite content with my Rodeo and my cruiser. If I could justify the expense of two bikes the other would certainly be a sport bike, but chosing between the two I made the right choice for me.

awesome, someone who recognizes how to pronounce, AND knows the meaning of my login name!!

yes i do golf, shoot in the mid to high 80's. have slacked off this year playing and probably cant break 90 right now. ive had that license plate since college and it suits my game to a T.....always pin high, but never straight!

as for my friend, yes that 1300 is his FIRST bike never ridden before. trailered it home from the dealer, got it on a dead end road, and went up and down till he felt comfortable enough to actually leave his street (two days later). he's ridden 4 wheelers for a year or so though. this will be my first bike too and i wonder if maybe an 1100 or 1000 type bike would be better, but i just love the looks of the M and also am not in this for the power. only thing would be how i look on a bike that size. but the m50 is actually a pretty big bike (like the C is). its not much smaller or lighter than my friends 1300 really. so i think i will look ok on it.

thanks for the info and the support. i am looking forward to riding.

Odd that... I got the name right off. Guess you have to golf to get it. :) I used to shoot in the mid 80's and was making progress towards breaking 80... before my first child was born. Problem now is consistency since I don't take near as much time to play as I used to.. best round I've had in the past 2 years was a 96. But I still love the game, and I'm not one to get too torqued when I 3-putt a green or slice a drive halfway to Georgia. Not like I'm trying to make a living at it (and [email protected] good thing that is). :)

If you peruse some of the "Hi, I'm a newbie looking to buy my first bike", the general concensus you'll find here is that (to paraphrase) 'more power = greater opportunity to f%&k yourself (and your new bike) up.' I think your buddy was not too well advised to launch himself right onto a 1300cc machine. Were we in most European countries, he could not have done that at all. With sport bikes, even the 600 Gixxer is more than most newbies can handle. All in all, however, I think you're on the right track with the M50. When I first saw my C50 sitting on the showroom floor I was afraid it was going to be too big for me, but after the first ride I was hooked solid. If, in a year or so, you decide you need more power, trade up. Just don't park your butt on something you feel too intimidated to ride.

i dont disagree with you that a 1300 is a lot of power for a noobie...and if it were sport bikes i would highly agree....

but the attitude we have is just cruising. hes had it a month and hasnt gone over 70 mph yet. just something to enjoy being on 2 wheels. hes 6'-5" 220lbs and his brother is 6'-4" about 260. so they are concerned that they will look too big on the bike. me at 6-1 150 is a different story....820 cc will be plenty. it was more the size of the bike itself than the engine power.

as for golf...i broke 80 one time (79) and have never actually shot an 80 or an 81. but was shooting 82 every day for a while back when i was playing 3 times a week. golf is great. kinda hard to carry the clubs on a bike though, no?? heh!

You are quite right - there is a HUGE difference between the engine output on a cruiser v. a sport bike. Still, for me anyway, how you think you look on a bike should be a distant second to how well you can handle the bike, ya know? You don't go drop $850 or so on a new set of Ping tour blades, $300 on a new Callaway Titanium driver, and a couple hundred more for a Scotty Cameron putter for your first round of golf. Unless you've got money to burn you don't; you get something a little less pricey and a little more forgiving. And when you start getting good at it and you've maxed the potential of that equipment, you get better by stepping up on your equipment - and your skills.

Starting out, I'd take the 800 and the cash difference between that and a larger bike I'd put into riding gear. But that's just me :)
