I'm in the market for my first bike. After a lot of reserch I have decided on the Suzuki Volusia. My question is: new or used? It seems like a no brainer when you can save 2K or 3k by getting a low milage 2 or 3 year old bike. The only advantages to the new bike are the warranty and knowledge of its history. The answer seems so obvious, when cost is an issue, am I overlooking something? Also are there any big differences between a 2001, 2002, 2003 or 2004 Volusia? Thanks.

I bought a 2001 in 2003 with 6kmiles babied with $1500 extras. Guy was just moving up to a bigger bike.(roadking) paid $5500, would have paid almost $8000 if new with extras. So if money is an issue, shop around. Look for a mover up. Find out why the bikes for sale etc.

If money is not an issue, buy new. See Volusia owners.com web site for more cool stuff.

Buy new

I struggled for approximately a year trying to decide whether to buy used or new. You will get more satisfaction with a new bike. Saving a few thousand dollars is good, but you know all there is to know when inquiring about the true history of a new bike. Dont buy someone else's mess.
Attend the MSF course, choose a bike that fits your needs and personality, and never look back.

Good Luck!

Buy used!! It probably wont be your last bike and chances are you will drop the bike in your first few thousand miles or so. It hurts a lot less if it's on a used bike that is not all shiney and new. After a few K miles sell the bike (very little devaluation on and already used bike) then get you brand new one.

01-04 Volusia is used, the 05-06 are the C50, and they come with FI vs carbs. for the Volusia. There is a reduction in the fuel tank size to accommodiate FI.

There are a lot of good buys on low milage ones out there. A few dealers may have a new 05 in stock.

Either version is a great bike. Having said that, I enjoy the FI.

Personal taste in colors, carbs. or FI. money saved.

I bought new, but if I came across a great deal on a low mileage, used Volusia or C50 I might consider it, particularly if I knew the seller or could verify the service history of the bike. That would make a big difference to me.
