Well I went shoping for a new bike today. Found two I like the suzuki c50t and the yamaha vstar 1100 silverado. I really love the looks of the yamaha.

I worked out what I thought was a good price for the c50t of $7900 out the door. I made an offer of $9000 for the yamaha but was turned down and told more along the line of $9300 out the door.

Not being a rich man is the yamaha $1400 more of a bike than the suzuki. Help me decide between the two.

Is this your first bike? How old are you? Have you taken a MSF course?

No this is not my first bike. I had a honda cb 900 back in the 80's with a winjammer fairing and saddle bags. I am 53 and started riding as a child on an old hond dream but haven't ridden any since the mid 80's

Both are nice and big bikes. More a matter of personal choice than dollars I think. I've been out of cruisers for many many years so I'm no one to give you an opinion on them. Many here know them well though and should be along shortly.

I do recommend you look into taking the MSF class just to brush up on the basics before you try wheeling around several hundred pounds of bike.

Welcome to the forum! :bluethum:

My opinion..... If you are planning on a lot of highway driving go with the vstar, back road crusing go with the c50 but $7900 sounds a little high MSRP is $7800 and I don't think you should ever pay more than MSRP out the door. I love my '04 Volusia (carb version of the c50).

Keep in mind the V-Star is air cooled vs Liquid cooled C50. Also there are some minor bonehead engineering oversights on the Yamaha such as the oil filter location. A real pain to change from what I hear. Both bikes are real nice though but you can't beat what you get for the $$$ with the C50. It all boils down to what suits you best and which one puts that ear to ear grin on your face.

I rechecked the fiqures on this bike of 7900 dollars and your right I should be able to buy it out the door for around 7500. I rechecked the figures in the vstar 11oo silverado and can see no reason why they shouldn't sell it for 9000 dollars. lists for 9499 with 3% holdback plus a 200 dollar custumer cash incentive. with the 200 dollar incentive should make dealer ready to sell cost 7910 add 5 percent profit 554 above the 3 percent holdback 285 dollars makes 8463 plus 423 dollars state taxes and 75 title makes 8961.
so I fiqure 869 dollars profit.

Shop a little more on price and get the C50. Haven't seen many on here that don't really like theirs. FI on the '05's is worthwhile, but there were so great deals floating around on '04's a short time ago. Do you have your M/C endorsement yet?

When I shopped the C50T I was quoted around $7500.00 otd..... but I was able to get the 2004 1500LC for about $500.00 more,, so if you can find any '04's left check into them,,, there are some '04 Volusias still at the dealerships here in Atlanta,, a couple of the other Intruders,, and I even saw on similar to mine for about what I paid for mine.

I chose the C50T and love the bike. I paid $7600 otd. The fuel injection is a very nice feature. Plus with the C50T, you get a lot of adds with the swivel seat back for the passenger and the nice saddle bags. Good luck with your decision.

I remember reading somewhere (I think) that there are a couple of issues with the 1100 V-Star. One is a crappy starter design that fails a lot. The other, I think, is that you have to pull an exhaust pipe to change the oil filter.

Both good bikes, both best in their class.

Question is what do you want ? Power is very similar ( don't let the 300cc difference fool you into thinking that you are getting more than a marginal 5hp power gain ), I tried both and have found that the C50 is actually roomier, in my case on the V-Star my knees stick up over the tank making it feel like a kids toy, not so with the C50.

The Star does require removing the exhaust to change the oil filter making it more time consuming for DIY's and more expensive to have done at a shop. I also don't like the exposed driveshaft. It does however offer dual disks in front and a disk in back.

You actually can't go wrong with either one but for some reason I'm going to suggest Suzuki !

With my Volusia I haven't noticed any vibration at high speeds. That being said the bike is "only" an 800 so at high speeds it is revving high and sounds like it is working to keep the speed up. But these bikes were built to do this. I know of people that have put thousands of highway miles on them (I have 9k on my '04 after one of the worst winters on record). At least one of them has 120k+ on his '01 Volusia.

I am not getting any vibration on my C50t, actually, at 65 my bike almost "purrs". The only time I start to feel it really even strain is above 75, and honestly, I am not interested in riding much faster than that anyway.

i think you will be more than happy with the 800cc C50T...its a great looking bike and the VZ800 is a strong engine and has more pep than previous 800cc engines.

also as mentioned above...dont pay more than msrp...i paid msrp for the M50 the day it hit the market...so one that has been out a little while should be that or better.

STP1971: I see you are here in GA. I would definitely recommend calling Suzuki of GA up in Alpharetta. The mostly sell Moto Britallia, but also Suzikis. I picked up a Blue C50 for about $6K for the bike. With a winshield, luggage rack, back rest, Suzuki leather saddle bags, saddle bag supports, 2 helmets, and Alpinestars cruiser jacket with gloves, I was out the door for less than $8K. Call and ask for Drew. Tell him Cameron (blue C50) sent you.
