Hello again all,
Guess I'll be a regular around here now since today I purchased a new M50 thanks in part to your replies on my previous post. :)
Thought I should "officially" introduce myself and I had a question to ask as well;
My name is Ryan and I'm located about 25 miles east of Birmingham, Alabama. Not far from the Barber Motorsports Park if you've ever heard of it. (BTW, the big race is this weekend; The AMA Honda Superbike Classic.)

My question is if anyone has any pics of an M50 with a backrest, saddlebags, and a windshield on it? I'm picking up the bike tonight and was going to go ahead and get a few accessories for it but I'm not sure how the M50 will look with some of the more cruiser style accessories on it. The M50 has more of a sport look to it and I don't want to take away from that too much.
Any thoughts or pics would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ryan

YES!!! another i brought over to the dark side!

windshield? ack!
saddlebags: only if necessary (im about to buy some throwovers for temp use)
backrest: the official Boulevard one looks like it wouldnt be bad, never seen it on though.

i agree with your view, i think the M is the "sportiest cruiser" ive seen. mag wheels, low line, muscle handlebars...etc. makes it hard to do classic cruiser items on it.

I'll have to have the backrest because my kids like to ride with me once in a while and I want the added support for them.

Temporary saddlebags isn't a bad idea. The biggest reason for needing saddlebags is so that I can carry my laptop to/from work but I might be able to strap it to the frontside of the backrest w/o any problems. Or maybe I'll just pick up a backpack to wear on me.

I definitely want to see an M50 with a windshield before I spend the bucks for one.

Boz, I called several dealers around here yesterday to comparison shop for the M50 and 3 dealers were completely out of them so there must be a demand for them right now.

Instead of getting saddlebags for my M50 I found a good back pack to use for those times when I need to haul something. Not as much room as the saddlebags on my old bike, but they weren't that big to begin with. The backpack is set up for cycle riding and even has a place to store a helmet. Also, it will hold my laptop with room to spare.

I think the M50 has a distinctive look among the middleweights. I don't recall a Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, or Harley that competes with it (same style, price, etc.). I might be wrong.

Well, I just went and picked it up and had my first ride on it and I LOVE IT!! It's much smoother and quicker than my old Vstar. Of course, I'm still in the break-in period so I couldn't really "let 'er eat" yet.

It's a very comfortable bike and I can tell that it won't have any problem hauling my big butt around. The only discomforting thing I noticed was the reach to the turn signals with my thumb was a little bit of a stretch. My Vstar had the button closer to my hand position but it's no big deal.....just something to get used to.

I did order a backrest for it but nothing else. Although the saddlebags in the accessory catalog actually look pretty good on the bike but I still want to see some better pics before I commit to them.

One odd thing I noticed while looking the bike over in my garage was how little I wanted to change about it. I spent a lot of time making my Vstar look and sound like a Harley by removing decals/badging, adding leather, slash-cutting the exhaust, etc. But, this bike doesn't look anything at all like a Harley so I have no reason to try to imitate one. I think it looks and sounds perfect just like it is.

Thanks again for the info.

I've had mine one week now and have 300 miles (quite a few parking lot miles, but also city and a little highway) my MSC starts in June, now, I'm enjoying it very much have had many compliments on the bike, even the HD riders think it looks great I'm glad I went with the Red! (We have the HD plant here in York Pa) so needless to say there are a ton of HD riders).

Dragula,,, I live in Douglasville which is off of I-20 halfway between the Alabama state line and Atlanta. If you want to meet up and ride one day let me know,, we could cruise the Talladega National Forest area or Cheaha state park. Although I will be alot slower in the twisties,,, I'll catch up on the uphill climbs.

Congrats on the new bike!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to the forum!!!

I have a Suzuki low backrest for my blue M50. I think it looks pretty good. My wife and kids won't ride on a bike without a backrest. I will try to post some pics with it on. I also want to add a windshield....Memphis shades has one called a deuce (clear) anyone know anything about it. I don't like windshields...but man they sure work.

I haven't added any accessories to my Roadstar Warrior. But I don't ride it that much. For my M50 that is my everyday bike I want comfort and also, windshield would probably be nice. So if anyone has and comments on shades...like the memphis shadeds Deuce...let me know.

Thanks

New M50

Picking up my M50 Tomorrow!!!! Excellent in Black, though I was getting the S50, but the M50 was so hot. Will put the small Suzuki windshield on soon (on order) so I'll take some pics for you guys. Wondering about engine guards, necessary or good for highway pegs? Anyone got them?

After riding my old Kawi, this will be a treat. Anything wrong with a 3.5 hour trip to see my dad by the end of the week because of break in etc?

Love the alloys, extra weight is okay as is length and width and bigger tank than S50. I'll share as I go.

Cheers.

BikinIT: Congrats on getting the bike!

I don't think the trip will harm the bike, but I was told by several people that you should NOT ride at the same speed for long periods of time during the "break-in" period. Vary your speeds as much as possible. Hopefully it's not a 3.5 hours at 65 mph. You might want to take the backroads; it may extend the trip by an hour, but varying your speed will be better for the engine.

I'm getting the Boulevard engine guards and a Suzuki windshield put on my bike on Tuesday. I'll probably add highway pegs later. You might want to post a new topic to get an M50 owner's opinion on the engine guards & highway pegs.

I'll be up your way in July. We go to Cape Cod (beach house in Dennisport) every summer.

Good luck!

Not to mention, the backroads will be MUCH more fun on the M50!

I hate the Interstate on a bike.....which is kind of odd since the only two bike accidents I've had were on twisting mountain roads.

I kind of wanted engine guards (with pegs) as well for an additional footrest but my accessory catalog doesn't show them for an M50. Is there an aftermarket available?

It looks like rain on Sat and Sun in my area, so I'll have to take the Montero to NYC. Yuk!

I second the motion on the new site for M50's Marauders etc. The shield was wicked expensive, but was part of the bargaining process for the entire bike.

And BTW, no one wants to see a guy like me in a bikini, trust me.

The cape is great in the summer, as long as you don't need to shuttle from there to anywhere else off the cape. We're usually up in NH by then.

Great site, I'll miss my friends at the Kawi forum but will still need to consult them on the "project bike".

BikinIT, what sort of Kawi are you working on? I'm still working with my 40 year old son, in restoring an '82 KZ750E, 4 cylinder. Great old bike that will still get up and go with the best of them. I only paid $500 for the beast and it was running when I bought it. Soon put three times that amount in restoring it.

Its a 1977 KZ650B. Runs great, was a gift from someone and got me to riding again. It goes fast, 4 cyls. It leaks a little oil, so its a project bike for now, unless I sell it I may re-do the headgasket.

I'm teaching my friend how to ride on the Kawi, it ain't easy with the high center of gravity and the weight of it. I've already replaced one turn signal and clutch lever.

Is the KZ650B a four? The KZ designations are very confusing. Some are four while others are two cylinder. I like the sound of the fours. With Kirker four-into-one exhaust, the 750 really sounds good.
I really miss the four cylinder cruiser type bikes. The only place that I see them now is in sport bikes. They are certainly much smoother then are the V-twin engines.
I did not find the KZ hard to ride. The seat does not feel much higher then on my S50. I will have to put a stick on it and measure. The bike really does handle well for a 21 year old motorcycle. I got a deal on a complete extra engine for $100. I snapped that up, if for nothing more then the full set of carbs.
Since my son has taken the Kawi, I have been keeping my ear to the ground to maybe find another one to restore.
