I'm 6ft. 245, muscular build and I would like to know if a GSXR 600 would be a good choice or should I stick with a Kat 600 for my start, money is not an issue but I still don't want to drop the bike
I need some input guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For a beginner, the Kat is certainly a better choice than a GSXR. Supersports bike, like GSXR, or Yamaha R6 or R1, are not recommended as beginner bikes no matter the size of your waist, arms, or even head :)

I wholeheartedly agree with the previous poster!

You might even want to think about an SV650S with a good set of frame sliders. You'll have the sportie driving position, great handling and fantastic power without hundreds of dollars of plastic to replace when you drop it.

By the way, even experienced riders will drop their bikes at a complete standstill by stepping in grease or loose gravel and losing their footing.

With an SV650S with frame sliders, you'll likely have unnoticeable damage. On a bike with LOTS of plastic, you'll be out hundreds of dollars and the bike's going to look like crap while the new plastic is on order.

I too have a large frame 6'2 200 and have had a couple of sport bikes in the past....found my ninja 600 a bit small feeling. Hurricane 750 almost right.

I am thinking of getting a S600 too and wonder if there is a frame size difference between that and the higher CC bikes?

Don't feel so bad wolph69, my first (big) bike is a 2000 GSXR750 :? < Is that the emoticon for "I need a fresh pair of underwear?"

"It was a good idea at the time, it was a good idea at the time!"

Oops, did I say that out loud?

Bye all

I am 6'3" 220 lbs my first bike was an 82 honda 650 which seemed slow and had no acceleration...I wanted a sport bike and could not afford a large on...my friends told me the gearing on a sport bike was different so I did not need a big on 600 or 750 they said...So I went out and bought a used Kat 600 it was pretty fun when I first got it good enough speed and acceleration, but then I oput a stage 1 jet kit and new pipes on it is fast as what...it will do 50 in 1st gear with my huge butt on and I have had it up to 160 don't tell the cops....600 with a few mods will keep up with any 750.

just some info

FIRST BIKE

JUST GOT MY FIRST BIKE, 97 GSX600 KATANA/W SOME UPGRADES. THIS IS THE FIRST BIKE I HAVE OWENED AND WOULD RECOMMEND AS A FIRST BIKE. I THINK THE GSXR ARE JUST A LITTLE TO RACEY FOR A FIRST TIME BIKE, BUT ITS YOUR DECISION AND MONEY. SO BEST OF LUCK.

Unbelievable how many first-time internet users show up around here. Unbelievable how often I use the  emoticon.

gsxkatanajt, you've undoubtedly seen what repeated clicking of the 'submit' button does. Also, lower case letters exist because of their relative ease of legibility. Thanks.

Motorcycle speedos are notoriously overspun. 160 indicated is likely about 140-145 actual. And you just told the cops, so we don't have to.

So true red, I guess they will have to catch me now...oh wait...bike is still not starting so I guess I will get a picket for going to slow, unless I get a really big hill. I know I probably was not going 160, but It was nice to imagine I was going fast  now I am sad you ruined my imaginary speed.

Lol
