Hey everybody, Chase here from B.C. Canada. Just chekin the net cuz i just bought my first bike yesterday. 1997 GSX-R600. Im 19, 6'2 200bls. and have experience with dirtbikes, and bikes in general but this is really my first Streetbike.
Took it for a little rip yesterday and was and still am amped . Needless to say, im stoked about it. My Rugby mate gave it to me for $3300 cnd wish is a killer deal because hes got to many toys and wants an 04-750
Was chekin out this site, and sounds like a good home!
Could anyone point me in a direction where i might be able to download a manual for my bike? Or could i pick one up at a dealer? $?
Also, whats proper operating temp for a bike? Im having to start and warm it up with the choke on for 5-10mins @bout 80 degrees and it still stalls when i turn the choke off? Should it run at like 100'?
Got other q's bout fairing mods etc, but ill drop a line in the mechanics forum.
Sorry for the long intro, and Hopefully Ill learn a lot here over winter!

Shouldn't have to run that long with the choke on. Sounds like the carbs need a cleaning. She's runnin' lean.

Hey thanks for the reply layinlow n Rowdy, my mate who came and checked out the bike with me works at Western Yamaha here in Langley and said the carbs would probably need to be cleaned and balanced because of some vibration at about 7 grand.
Ill be takin it in this week.
Also, my headlights wont work? Bulbs look fine and used a test light to check the connections and got nothing at the plub ends? Not the fuse either? any suggestions?

i live in the uk its always cold here and my bike always starts without the need of the choke so you carbs prob will need looking at, unless of course your making the school boy error of having the kickstand down as you put it in gear, but it dont sound like your doing that

Colors-looks

just for specs sake, the bike is custom painted black and yellow but is definately goin in come spring for a new color.
One of my other rugby buddies owns a chroming shop here and im gonna get the wheels and some other parts chromed, possibly the frame cuz it looks wicked when its done.
Anyone know if ill have any difficulty with putting tires back on once i chrome the rims, knowing that the chrome adds a little thickness but minutely im just wonderin. Greg, my buddy who races, spent $400 to get his rims stripped and polished on his 03 R6. But i figure i can get them chormed for way cheaper?
Bike also has flush mount kit, and i think thats bout it. Many more to come over the winter, ill keep em posted and have pics up pretty soon.

I don't see you having a problem getting the wheels on after you've chromed them. One of my co-workers has a Miata and a Mustang that he's had the rims dipped on.
