I am going to look at my service manual when I get it home, but I was wondering if there were any common problems that cause this:

The bike's lights, gauges, etc. work but the starter will not engage. No click no nothing. I tried another battery and a jump start; still nothing. The bike is in neutral, and the neutral light works. I tried switching the start/run switch and it made no difference. Thanks for any ideas,

Did you try the kick starter. Sorry had to say that since my bike doesn't have a magic button. Was the other battery you tried a new one?
If so, I'd say the starter is the culprit, but I'm sure someone else has a much better understanding of your specific bike. Good Luck, too nice out to have a sick bike. Give it a push start bring it back home and if the starter works, it's probably the starting going out.

check the voltage

use a voltmeter and check for voltage at the starter switch. If yes, then check for voltage at the starter. If no, look for a wire break or short between the switch and starter motor. Happened to me once, turned out to be a corroded contact. Good luck. be sure to press starter button when checking the circuit, or the circuit wont be closed.

Try this:

Turn the key on, and jump the solenoid with a screwdriver. If the bike cranks, you know the problem is in the switch. If it does not, then you know it is something else.

Just did this on one of our 250 racebikes last month. Turned out to be a safety switch, but at least I knew it wasn't the starter button.

Also, check all of your electrical connections. Sometimes they vibrate loose. You can also clean them with Radio Shack Contact/Control Cleaner and Lubricant PN# 64-4315

Have used that stuff for years on all kinds of dirty electrical connections.

It is about $8 a can, but worth it.

The problem is the clutch safety switch. I bypassed that switch and it fires right up. It didn't look too corroded or anything like that, so I'll just order a new one.
