Ok, I've seen a ton of threads about people saying "I want a new Gixxer 600, tell me how to do it" and everyone else goes on about how powerfull they are and they are for experience riders, and i agree with ALL of it. Now, on to my question.

If GSX600R's are so damn fast and powerfull, why would ANYONE need or want a 750 or a 1000?

I'm just curious. Was thinking about it the other day when i saw a GSX600R go rippin past me on the freeway. luckily the guy was in full gear.

I see guys playing foolish on the freeways here too, a few each day. Why a 750 or 1000? Well, I'm a speed junkie first of all. I love torque and acceleration! Not so much top end speed. Although I like that too at the right time and place. The 1k is my do everything bike. Commute, track, canyons, tourer and sometimes dual sport, but not by choice.

For my personal style of riding it seemed the best suited to my needs. If I had deeper pockets, I'd have specific bikes for each type of riding. But I'm poor so the 1k is it!

Mostly it's for status. Every experienced rider knows that a 600 will smoke the big bore bikes on almost any track and in most street riding conditions, and even the 1/4 mile times vary only slightly.

In my cast, the big displacement means torque. That allows me to shift less and ride with less drama when carrying a passenger.

If I was to buy a sportbike as a second, it would be a 600.

GIXXERDALE, have you tried sky diving? It's pretty safe too.
Ahh NO!

I have flown and flown in several questionable WWII warbirds during the 80's and 90's. Once during filming with some Jumpers, we had an engine fail and catch fire on a B-25 Mitchell. We told them since they had chutes they were free to leave, but we were going to attempt an emergency landing. The lead guy bailed and the rest stayed with us. We landed with no major problems. He broke his ankle.

Thanks, but I'll get my thrills these days on my little Gixxer.

the 600cc class is the most popular class of sportbikes on the market today, it has been for quite sometime.. its a relatively affordable bike ( and prices are inching closer to that 10,000 mark each year), they quick, lightweight, fast, not as bad in insurance rates, (in general but that varies of course).

People who want an all around great sportbike, but dont want a liter bike, have a wide selection to choose from these days.

qiute a story, although I don't get it, how can this guy brake his ankle?. The modern parashutes land very soft. I guess because it was emergency and all...
But hey it's very cool that you fly planes. That's what I want for myself, I enjoy all the flying I did, skydiving and paragliding.. the gixxer I have is pretty cool too, but still I think flying is kind of less restricted, I mean there's no kurbs, trees, cars... More freedom, and costs more though.

True, but in a plane, when your engine fails, you can't just pull over to the curb and check it out!

Hmmm . . . haven't seen that particular B-25 I don't think. I am more of a B-17 kinda guy anyway!

It is ALL bragging rights for the literbikes. In the old days, you really didn'ty go out and buy a literbike if you were a newbie. Mainly because of cost. But even still, there wasn't the "peer pressure" of having to have the biggest, fastest machine on the planet. But, in reality, I keep up just fine on the street with guys on new bikes, even in the tight stuff. I'm usually faster than most of them anyway.

My bike is, oh, 18-years-old. With the motor in it now, it makes 140HP at the wheel roughly (and that isn't the BULLS**T factory numbers either, that is tuned and dynoed - that bike stock made around 90HP at the wheel - my racebike makes 124.5 at the rear wheel). So, since that is the case, why upgrade?

If I wanted Big and Bad, I would have bought a Busa! Maybe when I retire and slow down some more, ya think?

That B-25 is currently housed at Camarillo Airport. My EX father in law and I spent many years restoring it and a couple others.

Naaaah, I would rather have a cheap bang-for-buck bike like a Bandit 1200 if I go for a standard. Huyabusa is too expensive and really not worth the money to me. And, I really don't "fit" good on one either for some reason. I really don't like the way they look either. I'd get a 1K before a 'Busa, but that's just me.

I'll bet there was a LOT of horse trading going on getting parts for that B-25. Although, there seems to be more airworthy B-25s than other planes. It's now interesting that the Korean War era jets are catching on.

Here is the other old bird we spent many years bringing back to life, Sadly all that is left of her are painted wooden models. I don't even have many pictures anymore. Once completed, she was flown to Florida in the 80's just prior to a hurricane. The plane and the hangar she was in, were totally destroyed. Many years of hard work gone in an instant. I don't think there are any more air worthy 26's left. They had a long life. Even served in the early years of Nam.

I learned to really respect all those guys who fought in those aluminum cans. They had some big balls to do it day after day. :bows:

If you like flipping gears like a gatling gun, choose the 600. If that's not yer cup of tea, then you'll need a 1000. Try to floor it in 60mph in 6th gear on a 600. Ain't much happening there ;-)

Think of engine size in relation to rider's body size and intended riding styles.

I'm big and heavy (6'2", 270+ lbs) and I don't want a track bike per se as much as a sport bike that I can (sport) tour with and carry a passenger on occassionally.

The Hayabusa fits the bill for me. A flyweight person wishing for synapse-wired handling would be better served with a 600 hyper bike. 750's and litre bikes fill the gaps in between.

I dont know what the big deal is about the 600 gsxr... Its not a bad bike... Its hard to keep with with a 1000, you have to shift like a mofo when you gas it. I like it over all of the other 600 super sport bikes the handeling of the i think is the best trate of it

Ok, so we got the big heavyweight names that i recognize saying that liter bikes are simply for show. That you can keep up on a 600. I pretty much figured you would be able to keep up with bigger bikes in everything accept long straights...

And then other people saying the 600's wind through the gears too fast, and liter bikes don't do that. Im not sure if i really buy that, but seeing as i don't have that bike hehe, ill just have to wait and see if i ever get one.

However, knowing the capabilities of a 600cc bike, AT THE MOMENT, i really can't see why anyone would want MORE bike. At least in a sport bike. I could see wishing for a bigger bike if you were going to be riding 2 up a lot, but i don't really think sport bikes were designed for that in mind, and its certainly not what i plan on doing with mine. The chicky is signing up for MSF course on her OWN hehe. Let her get her own bike.

Either way, thanks for all the info, keep it coming guys/dolls.
