Question for yall.

I got a buddy of mine that found a good deal on a bike. I'm not gonna tell you what it is, that's irrelevant. Anyhoo, the seller lives in Milano, Italy. Says he's willing to ship free and will continue the transaction with the Western Union pay system. Says he will make the delivery using DHL shipping. Claims door to door delivery in four days.

Could this be legit? I think it's a sham, but my friend is still interested. So I'm asking you experienced people what your thoughts are on this. Anyway this is possible and relatively safe. I know there's always a chance of getting burned on a deal like this. Can you secure the money in Western Union and not release it until the bike is delivered?

Any help appreciated.

P.S. No, I know what you're thinking, this bike isn't for me.

Tell your friend it's not worth the risk. I'm willing to bet money it's another scam.

Here's something I previously posted...

And I can't tell you how manny scammers have hit me. When you are warned over and over that if it seems "too good to be true it probably is", BELIEVE IT!

They are everywhere.. eBay, CycleTrader.com, etc. And they all run the same crap - "We're over seas.. the bike is PERFECT.. we'll ship it to you.. don't worry, shipping in included in the cost... send us the money, and we ship to your door..." Yadda, yadda, yadda... It's the same lines every time! And don't believe the pictures - they get those from everywhere off the internet!

PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THIS! IT'S A SCAM AND WHEN YOUR MONEY IS GONE ITS GONE!
In addition, the scam you mentioned has been attempted on me from at least 4 different vessels! No joke. They were the exact same M.O., and they came from eBay, CycleTrader, a bike forum, and another online trader that I can't recall the name of. I can tell you that I had 6 different adds, deleted from CycleTrader alone for reporting them as scams.

What you have described is EXACTLY the same as the ones I came accross. Only once was it being run from supposedly in the U.S. 99% of the time, they use the Western Union system as well.

That's what I figured and let him know the same thing. I can pretty much take a well educated guess though. I think it's total B.S. But out of courtesy to a friend of mine, I posted this to get responses from people he doesn't know.

yea forchizzle its a scam id put my bottom dolla it. Had some guy from germany try to sell me a gix 600 for 2700 shipped global shipping on something like that would be extremly expensive unless it was to be shipped with a batch of other bikes which would take alot longer than 4 days to organize. tell him if he wants to throw his money away salvation army always accepts donations at least you can get a tax write off for that

call the guys bluff and tell the guy in Italy that you want to use an escrow service to pay for it. then start the stopwatch to see how fast he runs away.

I for one am IN FULL SUPPORT of banning anyone else that ends a word in "izzle" just to be cool.
Hmmm.. You may have something there, Mark.

In addition, can we add the non-words "prolly", "wuz", and "ima" to the banning list??

How about "irregardless"?

Let me see if I've got this straight . . . without a lack of regard? Isn't that simply "regard"?

A foreign guy once asked my why the English language was so darned hard to get. Letters are pronounced different in different words, based on nothing more than knowing how to pronounce the word. My answer: "So we can spot you damned foreigners. What the heck do you think it's for? To make things harder for ourselves?"

I used both Western Union and DHL for overseas transactions, and they are VERY expensive.

1) Western Union will charge you something like 10% to 15% depending on the amount and the country of destination. (a wire transfer betwen two bank accounts will only cost $50-$70, regardless of the amount sent - much safer than WU, as well)

2) I sent a package with DHL to Europe (some manuals for someone taking an exam) and it cost me $150 - that was more than the actual value of the manuals. Now, scale up to sending a motorcycle -it will be a few grand.

3) Your friend forgot about the import-export taxes (customs), which could set him back with several hundred bucks, if not more.

The whole thing smacks like a really dubious deal ==> SCAM!

I don't even think this guy is Italian, but if you want me to call him, I would have a lot of fun.
