Kinda hummed along for 2 or 3 miles today between 105-110mph, which was 9k-10k rpms (if I remember rite; also in 6th gear). The engine sounded sorta like it was popping a bit. To me, it was like it was straining a bit.

Mind you that I am in the 2nd phase of engine break-in & can do up to 11k rpms. Although I hadn't yet gone to 11k rpms should my engine be sounding this way around 9k-10k rpms? I'm new to the game but it was just a peculiar sound to me.

Sorry,
I don't know your bikes limitations. However, if you were going at high speed and high rpms.... btw... 10k rpms is high rpms for a large number of bikes... mine redlines at about 11k I believe....

Anyway... If it was your limiter, you would be getting some funky ignition which would give you the popping noises because you weren't firing in rythm anymore etc. (pre or post ignnition etc. can happen).

I'm curious as to what else might cause it. Most ignition related problems (as far as timing etc.) will show up at idle and show up more so as you get higher in RPMs. So, I was doubting it was anything related to that. What is your speedos top speed listed at?

Can top out anywhere from 167 to 176mph, depends on engine break-in.

A repairman @the shop who races Gixxers told me that the best performance for Gixxer 600's is around 14k rpms, although it doesn't redline until 16k.

That's why I was wondering about that odd sound in my engine because I was nowhere near 14k rpm. I'm hoping it was just my engine getting used to humming during the 2nd phase of break-in, ya think  ?
