unless racing you really don't want a 520. They break fairly easily (on high torque bikes) and don't last all that long. Since your not planning any engine mods go ahead and get a custom map. You won't be dissappointed

on a high torque bike, it will break easily. On a 6 your still running an unneccessary risk. Thats like getting a lighter swingarm. Sure it will drop the weight, but its attached to the rear wheel and bad things happen when parts start to break back there. Unless your racing and plan to change out the chain regularly, I would advise against it.

but-but-but . . .
(bear in mind, I'm just a ******* with street bike)

Why on Earth would they sell the damned thing if it's so pronbe to snapping?

I mean, if they are RACE shains, you'd think htey'd be on RACE bikes, which one must assume have possibly been beefed up for . . . RACING.

I just don't see the logic.

You should be OK on a 600 GSXR.

No, they don't break easily. Unless you try to run one on a Turbo Busa or a really built R1 or GSXR 1K. Then you have to be wringing the piss out of it for it to fail. You might not get as much mileage out of it, but really, that is all. If it holds up on the track, (like most of my friends race bikes) then it will hold up on the street. I've personally never seen one have a catastrophic failure like that yet.

I use 530s on the street, but really, I suppose I could run a 520 if I wanted.

I have seen a couple of 520s go bad. Both of them had less that 10k on them but were both on busa, only one of which was turboed. That one did a massive amount of damage to both bike and rider. The non-turbo busa, all I can vouch for is that it snapped and flew off without doing too much damage, he needed a new rear for his bike and some new underwear but that was about it. I think he may of been down one or two in front but not sure.

Landry, can't tell if your being sarcastic or not

Yeah, that's what I figured. 520 is only so good . . .

The gains you get by using one really aren't worth it on the street anyway. On the race track, where the split second acceleration can get you by someone before you dump it into a turn, and then try to pull him/her on the exit, that is where every little detail adds up.

FYI: Decreasing rotating mass on the rear wheel not only causes quicker acceleration, but it ALSO causes the bike to decelerate slower. i.e. when you let off the gas, the bike will not slow down as fast as before. Really noticeable on the track when you are hauling *** into a turn.

It can actually be used to a small advantage in being able to enter the corner a bit quicker. Takes practice. The combination of the quicker corner entrance, and the quicker acceleration leads to faster lap times.

It can also be scary as hell if you have some flatslides not set-up quite right, and have a bit of lag before the motor wants to rev down, and you are flying into that corner with that lighter mass in the back . . .

. . . when I barely made it, I just learned how to go faster

Damn, I gotta race this season at some point . . .
