i heard alot of people saying they only powershift instrad of using the clutch. sure it sounds easy enough just let of the throttle a bit and shift as well as the thought of never having to get a new clutch sounds good, but is there any damage that can occur if done incorrectly/sloppy?

The only reason for such foolishness is to gain a few hundredths at the drag strip. You will cause excessive wear, and you'll likely do more serious damage at some point.

Ride the bike the way it was meant to be ridden, or pay the price. A clutch is dirt cheap next to a tranny rebuild.

Yeah, as evidence to what Red said, I just looked at my first driven gear off my 750 this weekend. Have the motor torn down. The inner part is pretty thrashed from doing that kind of BS, and I HAD an electric shifter.

That motor has had a hard life.

Either get an electric shifter, or spend the money on something worthwhile, like good tires.

Until you have to pull the motor and split the cases.

:D

Bikes are machines....they were built with clutches!! USE THEM...Like Red said it only shaves Hundredths of a second of your time. You would never notice that much EVER...You would only see the difference on a clock!!! And its a clutch...its takes half a second to squeeze....Just get better timing with clutch and shifting work!!!

Theres nothing better than rippin through 6 gears!!! using the clutch!

the only time i have powershifted was when my clutch cable snaped on my gs550es in a mall parking lot.....made it through several lights stalling it out and roughing it. I imagine it hurt my tranny but i wasnt leaving it in town. i live 30km north of sault ste marie and once i hit the high way power shifting was fine, but the town driving with lights was quite intense....next time i'll leave my baby somewhere safe and not do that again.
Heard some rough noise's.......
