i guess if you want to have leather pants. denim seems to be pretty strong. joe rocket has these pants called atomic and they look like normal black pants.

denim pants will not stand up to sliding down the street. Get some leather pants if you want full protection. If you truly have any doubts about this, just put your pants on and go to your favorite road and drag your knee. (that was sarcasm, in no way would I seriously suggest you do this)

The plague of the internet is uninformed speculation.

I ride in jeans, but I'm quite aware that they offer next to no protection. It's a risk I accept. I wear an armored jacket, gloves and motorcycling boots from Sidi. Get some riding pants if you want to save your skin.

Motorcycle gear must be able to withstand sliding pressure and friction for a length of time. In fact, that's the only real test of clothing fabric - how long it slides on asphalt before wear-through. Full-grain leather is the best (unless you spend thousands on high-tech astronaut fabrics), followed by the heavier textile products. Embedded armor helps with impact injury, of course. Denim is way low on the list.

//If temp is a concern I recommend Rocket's phoenix pants....I wear them over jeans to my M-F job, and over scrubs on the weekend. By themselves they are far cooler than jeans, comparable to shorts.

//When it comes time to slide, I prefer kevlar over denim....

//If temperature isnt paramount, there's always the option of onepiece leathers. I have a Speedmster suit I like a lot. It's even fairly cool, up to 80 degrees or so.

And the lack of concentration that severe discomfort brings can get you dead. There are many variables outside of the actual crash.

never knew

Wow, I never knew how useless denim is...I thought I was doing well riding in my jeans, boots, gloves and jacket in the 90 degree weather...well I guess it's better than shorts at least...

True enough, but you didn't list a helmet. I went down 3 months after buying my first bike in shorts and a t-shirt. Lucky for me I was on my permit and wearing my helmet. I spent the afternoon under the scrub brush at the hospital. It wouldn't have mattered had I not been wearing my helmet - I hit hard. I might have been killed.

For several years after I got my endorsement I thought I was skilled enough to not wear a helmet. After joining several forums on motorcycling I learned otherwise. Now I always wear it. And jeans, at least.

Wear your gear no matter what you're riding....your like may depend on it.

I'm guilty of riding in just jeans, I don't ride as aggressive but the chances of someone else causing me to go down are the same. I just need to get me a good pair of leather pants...maybe some AStars Bat pants or something.

I fully support helmet laws :D .....

Missing in these photos are 1 helmet and 1 pair of Alpinestars Ridge boots
