Hey whats up guys, I will be taking my MSF course july 1st through the 4th and i have decided to go with a 1995 GS 500 as my beginner bike. I noticed you guys said i should look for leathers with armor however i have been pressed to find such. I choose to go with SHOEI for my helmet and Joe Rocket Speedmaster boots with Perfarated leather pants but when it comes to the jacket i cant find a joe rocket one with armor. IM confused is the armor the plasitic i feel in the shoulders and elbows of the jacket????

Yup.....look for CE approved armor.

Here's something that might help ya: http://www.newenough.com/faq_armor_types.htm

Congrats on the bike (great choice for a beginner bike) and good on you for getting good gear, just make sure you wear it ALL the time.

At 20yrs old? You're not still under their authority unless you're still living under their roof....otherwise I'd take what they said into consideration but I wouldn't let them make the decision for me, especially if I was paying for it myself.

Just as you have to respect their wishes for you, they have to respect your decisions for you. It's part of growing up and becoming an adult. They have to understand that as much as you do. Respect is a 2 way street.

It also provides ample opportunity for them to say "I told you so"

RIP to his father. What was his name? Also, remember that you could be him but prove that you are going to be careful. I'm 20 and my Mom prays for me every night. I'm extremely cautious in respect for her and for myself. Let your parents know that you will respect their advice and you WILL be careful. (the old "but gas prices are so high nowadays" may help :D ).

Amen to that! I pray for myself and ALL of my loved ones every time I get behind the wheel of a car or on a bike....

Do you know the cause of the accident? Sometimes letting your parents know the situation can lead to greater undertstanding. Now if it was just a freak accident that can happen to anyone, I don't know what to tell ya, expect that your old enough to make your own decision.

HEY DOES ANYONE HAVE A 1 PIECE RACING SUIT???? IF SO HOW DO THEY FEEL????
//1 piece speedmaster. Feels great on the bike, more comfortable than jeans and a jacket. Off the bike is another story. It wants to crouch all the time, and tugs in the crotch and shoulders when standing upright. Cool enough to wear low 80's or below. I have no complaints. It's more comfortable off the bike than I expected it to be.

Gee if he died last week ( rest his soul ) give your parents some time to grieve ! Your Dad just lost a friend and doesn't want to lose his son in the same week.

Don't give them a hard time about it right now. Not the time to be giving him attitude, you should be consoling him and helping him through this time not fighting over a toy.

When the dust settles in a few weeks or however long it takes, then approach him with responsable arguments. You're 20 not 2 handle the situation responsably and in a mature fashion and increase your chances of getting him to come around to your side. At this time giving him a hard time will only strenghten his resolve against motorcycles.
