When I shopped for prices for my next bike, I asked the price of the lower fairing for the SV650S. The clerk tells me it's $1000 CDN. I was like "Hmmm Ooook"

When I got home I started doing some research on the net and found that the MSRP for that piece was $469 US which translates to more or less $575 CDN.

Now, there is a stretch between 575 and 1000. A huge stretch. What's even better is that RonAyers has the part for $389 US and OneidaSuzuki for $374 US.

One thing for sure, is that I wrote down all the MSRP for the accessories. I'll add that to my bargaining hoping to get a fully-faired SV650S.

God I love the internet.

I can see that, but isn't that illegal? Who knows what they try to pull. I probably got scammed in the past too. I ordered an o-ring for the upper oil line that goes into the valve cover. Stealer wanted $5 each. I thought that was high, even for the stealer.

The parts manager said "well, some of the parts for older bikes cost more. Suzuki raised the prices."

He didn't know what to say when I told him that was the same part used on all the Bandits, Katana's etc. in his showroom, and has been for nearly 20-years.

Ahhh . . . the horrah!

Yes it would indeed be illgela in my mind and I'll rub his nose in it when I go see him next time (if he wins the price wars).

-"About that lower cowling... What's the price again?"
Depending on his answer:
-"I wonder what Suzuki would think of that or the Better Business Bureau"

Sorry boy's but there is nothing illegal about charging more than MSRP for something ( try getting a Harley for MSRP ) it's a free country and he can ask for a million dollars for a washer and there is nothing illegal about that.

Probably won't be in business long ( unless he sells a couple of washers to the government ( through Lafleur communications, right Louis)).

Your best bet is to establish the extras you want now and deal for the whole package because once you've signed for the bike you have signed away your leverage.

There's not a lot for sale. And the one I looked at was not that much lower than a new one. I'd rather pay a few bucks more per months and have the warranty and a new bike.

Louis, I stopped by my dealer and asked about your situation. Well the problem seems to stem from Suzuki Canada itself and not your dealer.

Canadian dealers pay more to buy the full lower fairing from Suzuki Canada than the American MSRP of $469us. Seems that Suzuki Canada does not stock parts that aren't volume items, the full lower fairing for an SV650 being considered very low volume.

So if a dealer orders one from Suzuki Canada they turn around and order it from Suzuki US for a little below list then add shipping to their offices then shipping to the dealer plus a percentage for their trouble. Bottom line is that the Canadian dealer pays over $800 can for it then adds his own mark up, the msrp is $1,100 can.

Now a little matter that I've noticed checking out the sites you mention is that neither one specifies that the fairings fit or are color matched to the 2005 model. They probably haven't updated the info and the fit and color should be fine but you should definitely confirm this before ordering.

Guess you could contact Suzuki Canada and ask why the MSRP on the part is 210% of the american part when the exchange rate is only about 20% but don't hold your breath.

BTW my dealer quoted me a price of $7,999 can for the SV650s including dealer prep.

Oh I can see the next question coming !

Canadian dealers can't buy directly from Suzuki US or from an american dealer, it's strictly prohibited by their contract with Suzuki.

Thanks Uncle Bob :bows:

Okay I guess I could forget it then and order it from either site and have it deliverd in Ogdensburg NY. Ride over there, install it and re-cross the customs.

As for the colors, for the blue SV, it's the exact same part number for '04 and '05 (slightly different for the yellow though).

I think I'll ask Suzuki Canada anyway, just for kicks.

Ogdensburg is only on hour away from me. And I know a few people who are already doing this. They have the stuff shipped to Mailboxes Etc., pass the border one way, grab stuff ride a bit in NY for a few hours and head home.
