OK, I just got an 1994 rm125 to mess around with. Seems to me the clutch is worn or something similar. I checked the clutch line and it is fine now. I had to replace a small thumb adjuster screw. With that done it still will not engage. I am wondering how to check the clutch. I used a vise grip on the peg sticking out of the clutch to make sure that when I pull the lever the peg (bar going into the clutch) was moving all the way. It was so it must be internal.
I am also not familiar with how these work and if I need to be riding the bike for the clutch to engage. Any advise would be great. If it isn't too difficult I could probably take it all apart and replace the worn out pieces. Just need a little advise on how to approach this.

first things first, just to make sure you're not making a simple mistake, you do have it in gear correct? that aside, go to www.howthingswork.com and check out how clutches basically work. they'll give you an explanation of how a car's clutch works, and a motorcycle's is basically the same, except it usually has multiple plates instead of one. what you can do if you feel like it is something internal is drain all of your oil out of the bike, take off the cover that covers the clutch and engauge the lever to see if the plate is disengauging and engauging normally. pretty much make sure when you pull the lever, part of the plate should travel toward you. also, make sure when pulling the cover off to not damage the gasket, otherwise you risk leaking oil once everything is back together. and you might want to take a look at a manual for the bike as well. good luck

Clutch

Drain the oil or lay the bike down on the flywheel side so that the oil does not drain out whe you take the sidecover off. Do not take the whole side cover off only the cover that the clutch shaft prodrudes from, should be about 6 bolts. Lift the cover off, there should be a Oring sealing the cover. Next you will see the clutch basket, there will be 5-6 bolts, undo these a little at a time going to the next one untill they all come out then take out all the springs, clutch cover will then come off and you will be able to pull out all the plates, one of these could be possibly broken or the outer clutch basket will have grooves in it. Put everthing back in the reverse order but note the following. The first plate that you put back in has to be a fibre then you use a Steel then a fibre, steel and so on finishing with a fibre, when you put the springs back in and tighten the bolts do not do them up too tight or you will break the cluth basket. When you put the side engine cover back on make sure the spleened shaft on the clutch basket lines up with the slot on the engine cover. If you are not prepared to spend money and buy parts don't do the job because something will be broken. Goog luck
