Ok, this seems really bonehead to most, I'm sure. I went out for a ride yesterday, got the bike up to about 55. Man, there's TONS of wind force at that speed. It seems so common sense to me now, but it never occurred to me that there's that much force against the rider at freeway speeds.

from the window to the wall silly :p

i'm a new rider myself- when i get onto the interstate, i sorta duck behind the windscreen. not sure how to really explain it. the force is great when you sit normally on the interstate, but scoot back a little and then kinda duck down. your head won't be bobbing around like crazy-

You neglected (or maybe not) to tell us if you were on a sportbike or a cruizer? If you are on a sportbike, I don't think you would have asked that question, because its rather easy to duck and hide. I know about the cruizers tho, I think the max speed is 65 unless you want your skin peeled back, did get a harley up to 95 and I felt like my neck was going to break.

Sorry, shoudl have specified. I have a 1981 GS450S. So yea, it is a sport bike. And yea, it's a total rookie question, but this is my first bike, and my first time ever beign on a motorcycle. So, I'm open to any and all pointers while I get the hang of it.

scoot your butt back, and lean forward.

Or look into an aftermarket windscreen with doublebubble to redirect airflow up higher and you won't have as much of a problem

Of course let's not overlook the fact that you will get used to the wind.

I remember way back when learning to ride, concentrating on looking ahead and following my instructor on my first on road ride. At some point the windblast was unbelievable and I assumed that we must have been going at least 60mph, well I dared peek down at the speedo to see I was only going 35mph.LOL
