Sad event yesterday afternoon. Two younger dudes cruising on their bikes on a clear day. One had a green Kawasaki, the other on a late model GSXR 750. I was about 7 or 8 car lengths behind when I saw the Gixxer spin sideways and flip over onto its left side. Smoke and plastic flying off the bike everywhere. The rider was able to leap off and just barely stayed on his feet while breaking into a running stance while the bike merrily followed behind him. It happened at a busy intersection where the riders where first in line at the red light. Not certain what happened but it looked like the Gixxer bike somehow caught the rear tire of his buddies bike, causing the front end to wash out. Lucky they were just starting off from the line. Both guys seemed to be okay, so I didnt get out and assist. But when the Gixxer kid went to retrieve his bike from the street, the front wheel was locked up and would hardly turn. He muscled it over to the side of the road while I strategically parked my vehicle in the middle of the intersection with my hazard lights blinking to protect him from any oncoming traffic. Fucking other retard drivers were honking their horns and shaking their heads at me while I covered the downed biker.
I could totally feel exactly what this guy must have been feeling"Holy **** I'm alive. Damn, my bikes wrecked, Holy ****, I'm alive, damn my bikes wrecked...." This happened around Buffalo NY. on Sunday. If the guy is on this board, hope your doing okay.

That was very cool of you to stop and give him some cover :bluethum: ...it's amazing how insensitive people can be to those that are stranded on the side of the road...zipping by at high speeds, drifting onto the shoulder...

We actually just had a 17 year old die here yesterday becuase he was offering assistance to a lady that had a flat tire on one of our highways. Someone drifted over the white line and hit them. He died, she got two broken legs!! Crazy!

I'm sure he was about 50% embarressed and 50% freaked out! Did his friend stop at all or did he keep going?

Poor kid. Glad you helped out, imadazhell.

It sounds like they may not have been staggered in the lane - first driver may have stalled out, choked in neutral by accident, or just hit the brakes for whatever reason.

If the gixxer kid HAD been staggered in the lane then his fron tire most likely wouldn't have made contact with the bike in front, based on your assumption of what may have caused the accident.

The guy ridng the Kawasaki in front had on shorts and designer sneakers ( =roadpunk) The Gixxer dude had a leather jacket and gloves on, with work boots. I think you can figure out who was to blame on that one!

I"ve heard a few of those storys as well. Happened to a friend of mine too when we were going to a race (SAE Mini Baja) and the mini van got a flat in TN at like 11-12pm somehwere arournd there. Terrible spot, had the shoulders closed for construction or something. So he had to limp it for bit, then went to change it and he said he could fell the shirt lift up from the semi's passing him. I didn't see it, was in a car infront of them. Needless to say he got it done in like 5mins.

Thats why my vehicles have steel wheels :D Ain't gotta worry if you need to ride on em a bit to a safe place. Hell i've taken a hammer before to my jeeps wheel to straighten it back out. Due to rocks, not road though.

Sounds like a stupid newby trick, but a bummer just the same. Kudos for offering assistance.

My cousin was killed by a tractor trailer when she was doing a similar tire change late at night. She was just off in the brakedown lane, but only a few feet off the edge of the road. I will never get out and change a driver's side tire unless I have been able to pull over on a left shoulder (so that the car is protecting me).

Be safe.

Keep in mind though that there's always idiots not paying attention out there. I you're changing a tire in the left breakdown lane, most drivers aren't used to seeing a car next to the fast lane. So if you do it there keep in mind that while you may not get hit by their car. You can get squashed between your car and the barrier, if you car gets nailed be theirs. Let's be safe out there.

Actually the 17 year old was helping a woman who was pulled over on the left side. They had more details on the news last night and it turns out that a 22 year old girl didn't see that traffic was stopping in front of her and slammed on her brakes, knew she wasn't going to stop in time, and pulled onto the left shoulder to avoid hitting the people in front of her...only she didn't see that there were cars pulled over in the left lane. The kid got pinned UNDER the car. People stopped to assist, and only initially saw the lady that was pinned (with two broken legs). Then, they noticed an arm sticking out from under the car with a compound fracture. These guys lifted the car off of the kid!!! They had one of those superhuman moments! Then, two of the guys took their shirts off and used them to support his neck...one guy held open his chin with his thumb to help ease his breathing. (Obviously at this point, he was still alive). He died later at the hosiptal. His family said that he's stopped several times to help people with changing their tire. It's just so sad when people get hurt just being helpful!

I also feel bad for the 22 year old girl that hit them. It sucks that she wasn't paying attention, but I try to imagine being in her place...how you would feel. She might be a very nice person as well...The story's all over the news, maybe going to be charged with manslaugter...may go to jail...all because of daydreaming, cellphone, or whatever! Yikes...I feel bad for her too.
