Okay, just so I know...this is my first bike.

How often do I have oil changes done? What other maint needs to be done on my 1997 GSX-R600 and when do I do them?

I bought the bike from a shop so it just had all of its scheduled maint done.

My bike has a maintenance scheduled every 5'000 miles (8'000 KM). The maintenance schedule (when and what needs to be done) is nicely documented in your user's manual.

If you didn't get one with the bike, go back to the dealer and ask for one. There is lots of other valuable information to be found there...

Not under the seat...already checked there! :D Actually checked it when I bought it and found two ponchos and a bike lock with no key.

Make sure you change your oil and filter at the same time and do the changes roughly 2000 miles apart since it is a high performance street bike. Also use the best motorcycle gearbox oil you can afford. The reason is the oil for motorcycles has a higher shear point and the viscocity will not breakdown as quickly as standard motor oil. Also you should have your valve clearances checked as most bikes never have them adjusted correctly. Performance will drop off if they are out of spec. Change the plugs every 3000 miles if you can afford to. If not you can go to 6000 miles.

Thanx...the maint cost is no issue. I will do what needs to be done, when it needs to be done. So I will write down my current mileage and do maint when needed, I will keep a log.

I just paid $50 for a K&N, but I wont be buying anymore unless I ride this for a million miles.
