I know they were previously only available in Europe. They just got recently Snell rated and are now available in North America. I think they are in the same price range (if not even higher) than Shoei.

Nope - Shark are usually low-end ... for example, the Shark S800 goes for about EUR 185, whereas the Shoei RAID 2 is EUR 319.

This could be because Shark is made in France (no import duties), whereas the Shoei are made in Japan ...

I've had a Shark RSF for about a year and I really like the helmet. It is a good mid-range helmet. Quality is good as well as the finish. I would definately look at another one if I was looking for a new helmet.

Just get a Scorpion if you want value or if your pocket can handle it, get an Arai.

Arai is listed as J.D. Power's number 1 helmet for customer satisfaction. Since 1999 up to 2004, Arai placed #1. (6 straight years.)

I have a Scorpion and I'm pretty happy with it. It's very comparable to the Shoei I used to have.

I think it's so the sharks don't hurt themselves when they attack their prey.

Hey if shark helmets were good enough for foggy then they're good enough for me. Used to have one when i started out, never tested it for it's safety features thankfully, so all i can say is it was a helmet and it fitted, and i thought i looked cool damnit!
